Are remote callers illegal in MN ?

Randy, just saw this topic. I called up to the enforcment division in Bemidji last week on this topic. I asked the question to the gal that answered the phone. She said I have no idea and transfered my call to the "captain". He told me remotes for coyotes were LEGAL. However, when I quistioned him further he did not know that remotes for a robo-duck were illegal. Who do we believe??? Captain said the remote on a fox pro was not a two way radio communication and therefor legal to use. Almost sounds like it is again going to be a gray area on how to read the rules, and who reads it.

Trailhoud, that's exactly the point. The subject is a gray area and leave interpretations to the CO. To avoid unnecessary discussions, fines, trials, etc it would be better not to use them until the issue has been clarified by law.

I am sure you will find a CO that will never say anything but also another that could write you a ticket and confiscate hardware.

Co chris howe from the mankato area told me that any caller with any type of wireless anything is illegal. he knows nothing about a permit.
i give up!!!!!

Isn't this fun stuff? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know for a FACT that they are illegal. I also know for a fact that they can be used with a permit that you can get from a conservation officer.

I don't know too many co's that would write you up for it but they certain could if they wanted to.

This is not a grey area at all. They simply are not legal because they use radio waves. It doesn't have to be two way communication.

I know what my decision is about them and it's up to you to decide if you are going to use them or not.

I talked with a lady at the head of enforcement at the DNR, she had to ask her boss, The head of enforcement for MN what I needed to do for a permit. Basically I am waiting for a description of the radio signal/device from the Borlands and then I have to submit that description and a picture of the device to the Head of the enforcement division of the DNR. He is the one with the final say on wether I get a permit or not.....FUN? You betcha.......so when I get the description and hopefully the permit, I will post it all here so everyone else in MN who has a wireless remote controlled caller can bombard the state office with requests. The weirdest part about my application is that I have to submit a picture of it.....my quest continues, stay tuned

The part that ticks me off is when you ask someone in enforcement and they say they are ok to use a wireless for coyotes. Then call another place and they say no, it's not. Called the St. Paul office today. Illegal to use, unless you have a permit. Illegal to use for fox and cats no exceptions.
