Arizona bear huntin

Howdy fellas, I need a little advise. I drew a spring bear hunt in unit 31 in AZ and was wondering if anybody has tried calling them in during this time of the year(march)? I have an electric game call and just ordered a electric decoy(predator supreme). Do any of you guys over there in Safford know of a good place to start? I hunted there 2 years ago behind the Fort Grant prison and around Stockton pass with no luck. I would sure appreciate any information you can pass on. I will only have time to go scouting one time. It's about a 4-5 hour drive for me. Thanks, David.

That is a real hard hunt. Im no expert but glass glass glass, try calling my buddy called one in on the fall archery hunt. I stalked to around 200 yards of a couple bears and called and they payed no attention to the call.

I got drawn for a archery tag as well in Unit 23. I talked to a G&F guy at the hunting show this last weekend and he said that the hunts could be a little tougher due to all this rain we have had. Everything is so green that the bears won't be moving much, probably less than they normally would. He said the best bet would be to get some high ground and glass. I'm bringing my calls with me as well. You never know when you will need it, and you might get lucky enough to have one of our abundant lions come in. It would be great to get a lion/bear double.

I know I live a long ways from AZ but I might have a bit of useful info. The bears will probably be coming out of hibernation at the time of your hunt since it's pretty early. Start glassing and calling in the meadows. Anywhere you might find grassy vegetation, the greener the better. Bears will be naturally attracted to these areas as they need the fibre to get their digestive system working again after a long winter. Good luck.

I went out scouting two weeks ago and actually found some sign that they have been out moving around. I am going back this weekend to check my trail camera to see if they are still coming into the same area. I talked to a hunter that hunts in this area and he told me that he saw two bears in January while deer hunting. I think with it warming up here a bit it might get them moving out a little more. If I get any pictures I will post them. David.
