Armalite M-15

I recently aquired an Armalite m-15 in 223. It has the chrome bore barrel, std sights and NM trigger. After sighting in I fired several quick groups. The NM trigger got harder to pull the warmer the gun got until it finally stopped working. Open gun up, let cool and it shoots fine again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Anybody have problems like this?

Are you saying that the trigger itself got difficult to pull? I have only worked on a few of the Armalites with NM trigger but for the life of me I can't think of anything that would make the trigger hard to pull as the gun got hot. ????

Yes Sir, That is what is happening. The gun was new and after break-in I shot several 5 shot groups. The longer I shot, the harder the trigger was to pull until it stopped working. Open the gun up everything worked fine after it cooled down. I am also confused.

Let me make a guess here, you acquired this armalite m15 in a deal you couldn't pass up? If so, this is probably why it was a deal. I'd take it/send it back to whomever you got it from and tell them to either fix it or replace it. I hate it when people sell you something without telling you whats wrong with it. Unless this person told you about the problem before you purchased it, I would take it back.

Check the firing group pins, check to see if they are working themselves out of place as you fire (just a guess) because it does happen. Clean the trigger group very well and lightly lube the pins you may also have some debris causing things to gum up. Take the trigger group apart if you feel comfortable and inspect the components. Replacement pins are easy to get or just upgrade the trigger group as a unit, it would be faster than sending it back to Armalite and waiting 6 months.

I would have to agree with FAL on checking the pins first. As DTech says, I can't see anything that would effect the trigger group from the rifle heating up. I would however, not recommend getting the barrel much hotter than warm to the touch unless you are match shooting. Barrel life will suffer it you continue to put excessive heat on it.

My Bad!
This is a brand new rifle, out of the box from Armalite. M-15/A2.
I will look at the trigger group and see if it is something I want to attempt. I will clean and blow out the trigger group again IF I don't feel comfortable with disassembly.
Yes on the barrel heat, about being able to touch the barrel. It is my first chrome lined barrel. First AR type.
My bolt guns are Tikka's.

Thanks,
Randy

If it is a brand new rifle, I wouldn't doo too much to it before I'd send it back to the factory and let then have a look at it. From reading on ARFcom, turn around should be just a couple of weeks.
