I'm seeing a lot of posts pop up lately about budget thermal scopes and detection range so here is a review I did last winter / spring on my Armasight after purchasing it. Almost a year later, and I'm still absolutely in love with thermal, I can't imagine hunting without it.
Below is my review:
I got a chance to do some filming the other day with this scope, so I figured I would share it here. This is the first thermal I have ever owned. It was kind of an impulse buy, and luckily, I have zero remorse about the purchase.
Armasight Zeus 336 - 17 Micron, 42mm, 60hz - $3,500 from Optics Planet (DVR was additional $270). Scope has the ability to hold three different profiles. Currently I have it set up for my AR, and 308. The mount seems to work very well. I have had zero issues with it maintaining zero swapping it back and forth from the two rifles.
I will apologize now for the video quality. This representation is about half of what the shooter will actually see looking directly through the scope itself. I'm not sure if a better SD card is what's needed, but the quality of these videos is horrible.
So far my only complaint with the scope is the battery life. I absolutely cannot leave this model on, otherwise a full set of batteries will probably last me a half hour to an hour depending on the temperature outside. I've only used this in the winter so far, so I'm hoping once it starts to get warm out, my battery life will drastically increase.
Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them. I'm by no means a tech guy, so I probably can't answer some of those questions, but I can answer questions on my experience so far hunting with it.
