I Havnt shot my 243 over 200yds yet. but i was just wondering whats the range on this baby? i got er zeroed in at 100yd. what the drop at 200.300.400.500. etc? any help is appreciated.

oh well..im shooting a 100 gr bullet. but what would the difference be in shooting a 100 gr and a smaller grain in the range? i mean just some input.

Using a lighter bullet equals less drop and faster ML usually. I would recommend getting out and shooting at the ranges you are listing. No computer ballistics program or someones elses experience can substitute range time.

couldn't say it any better, every bullet and gun will shoot differently. just practice and see what you get... and take notes of where it's hitting at whatever range.

Find a 500yd range and spend some quality time there. With any weight bullet, the .243 is more than capable of 500yds assuming the shooter knows his come ups and wind drift. Ballistic programs will get you in the ballpark, but there's no substitute for trigger time.

Longest successful coyote shot with my Remington VLS 243 was 475 yards. I'm shooting Nosler 55 grain varmint bullets at 3950 fps from a 26 inch barrel.

A better question would be how accuratly can you shoot at longer ranges? The 243 is quite capable of hitting targets at a thousand yards and coyotes out to 500 is not unreasonable at all.

Most folks won't zero at 100 yards for a gun designed for at least a 300 yard point blank range. Both my 243's are sighted in 1.5 inches high at a hundred for varmint hunting.

What Cig Beef said is the gospel. To be successful at longer ranges you have to practice shooting at longer ranges. The longest big game shot I ever made was with a 30-06 in Alaska at a Dahl sheep at 650 yards. I'd spent a year shooting that rifle out to a thousand yards. The hours and hours of practice paid off with a 36 inch 7 and a half year old Ram.

okay thanks alot. i am a good shooter. im no pro or nothing but i am a very good shooter. and i will practice some distance shooting. thanks

It means less drop to a point. For instance in my .308 I shoot 110 gr. Varmint Kings at 3100FPS and 168 gr. SMK's at 2860FPS. The 110's are flatter shooting out to 500 yards but after 500 the 168's really start to shine and are actually flatter out to 500-1000 yards.

As far out as you can make hits....consistently. That should be further than a 12ga. and further than a .40 Glock.

I'd say it depends on the manufacturer.
Probably about two thousand yards if it's a Remington.
Now if it's a Savage or one of them Tika's, you'll probably have to stand inside the barn to hit it. CZ's and Rugers are no better!!!!

Please hold your replys untill I get my tin-foil hat and protective cup on. Thanks
