(attention rich)PRIMOS HOTDOG(Randy Anderson signature series)

Handishooter,
The Hotdog howler is a good one, if you are used to closed reed howlers you will need to spend some time practicing with open reed types. I recently picked up the Primos/Randy Anderson Mastering the Art of Predator Calling and it is good. It goes over all his calls, distress sounds and howling etc. Good luck!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif MH

i bought this call and didn't like it. i didn't like the tone or the size of the reed. a little too obtuse for me. the range of sounds you could make with it were good but i like the lil' dog better.

Hot Dog Trick

I was having trouble getting my Hot Dog to make consistant sounds when I read somewhere that you could tune them by placing a rubberband on the reed. I went out to the shop and got an O ring that I could roll up and down the reed. Suddenly my Hot Dog became very versitile. Just put your lips above the o ring and blow. You can easily make sounds like tweety birds, rabbit squalls, pup yips, ki yi's, and all kinds of barks and howles with just a little expirmenting. Before I fitted mine with an O ring, I never knew what sound I would get until I blew.

Hotdogs are excellent calls. Like driving a vehicle they take practice. Switching from a closed reed to an open is like switching from an automatic to a manual.

Once you get one down they all drive the same. But you have to get that first one down.

I have a Red Desert, Sceery and a Bill Austin LR. I like the fact that they all sound somewhat different so I can sound like several coyotes. I think the Bill Austin was the easiest for me to master.
