AZ Rattlers!

That is a beautiful speciman of a GREENIE. And yes they are Nureotoxic, but they also are Hemotoxic and Cytotoxic. So even if you survive the assault on the nervous system you still have to deal with the tissue damage of the Hemo and Cyto toxins that cause necrosis and in severe cases "Compartment Syndrome" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Bad JU-JU!

But they are tasty /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For those who may first encounter a rattlesnake there is an old saying 'they don't die till sundown'. I never heard that before but I killed a rattlesnake in Southern OR, a few years ago. A lucky throw, but I cut it's head off all but a thread of skin with a rock at about 8 feet. Well I picked the thing up and it was obviously dead. I hung it in a tree next to where we were camped by a creek and basically didn't pay any attention to it until if fell out of the tree. While it had been hanging there it had completely bled out. Well I picked it up and put it back into the tree and a little bit later it fell out again. This time I noticed it was kind of moving like a reflexive movement. I hung it back into the tree and as it hanged there with it's head attached by a tiny piece of skin, I picked up a axe and touched the nose of the snake, it actually bite the axe blade. Made me jump and reconsider it's hanging there. Well I finished the original coup and cut off it's head and threw it into the creek. Put it back into the tree and after a bit it fell back out. This time I rolled the snake onto it's back, it immediately rolled over and started to move away , just like it was alive. I put it on it's back again and it rolled over and started crawling away. Unbelievable. So I then put it into the creek, about 56 degree's F and put a rock on it. A couple of hours later and probably 4 hours after it's head was cut off it was time to skin it. At that point it took 2 of us to hold it still to skin it. After it was skinned the white skinless snake would still turn over from being placed on it's back and try to crawl away. At that point enough was enough I pitched it into the creek for the crawdads dinner. Never would have believed it if I hadn't see it, 'they don't die till sundown'. That snake could have bite you a long time after it's head was cut off. Belive it or Not.

jumprightinit-I've heard that saying before too.I dont know how long it takes for their nerves to quit functioning but its usually at least a day before they quit movin competely I think. If I kill one in the evening I always wait until the next evening to skin it unless its gonna be really hot out the next day.My grandpa killed one a long time ago and went out to skin it the next day,I dont know how long it had been since he killed it but it layed in the back of his pickup over night.Anyway he picked it up and it wrapped around his arm without its head attached and without even thinkin about it he chunked it way out in his yard.I dont know if he ever did go out and finish skinnin it or not but knowin him he just left it layin out there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I've had em' strike at me without their head attached plenty of times.I will admit that it tends to make ya jump a little bit when you have em' by the tail and feel them bump into your arm with what used to be their head.
A buddy of mine had one going under his porch one time so without thinkin about it he chopped it in half instead of just cuttin its head off.The top half with the head still attached kept trying to bite us and the half with the rattles on it still crawled half way under his porch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

This is pretty random but what kind of shoes are those?

They are Merrils. Very comfortable boots. They started coming apart a long time ago but have held together for a few years now. They are expensive but are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. I got them from Cabela's.

We only had one be lively on us. We skinned them about 2 hours after we killed them, and one of them kept moving even after its skin was off and guts were out! They are pretty weird.

I had a halibut come back to life on me once. I had it in a styrofoam cooler on ice for about 4 hours in the back seat. Just before I pulled off the highway it blew the cooler lid all the way into the front seat I thought I got rear-ended.
Pretty primitive critters.

huntinaz-Thanks I'll have to do some searchin and see if I cant find some shoes like that.It would'nt be so hard if most places carried mens shoes small enough to fit me.I wear a size 8 and most of the time I have to order womens shoes.I dont know if I should admit that for the whole world to see but oh well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I just turned 20 years old yesterday but I keep thinkin I'll have a growth spurt one of these days and be about the size of your brother in law but I have a feelin that aint gonna happen. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I'm sick of people askin me in Wal-Mart "Hey little fella where's your mommy at are you lost?".....Just kiddin I aint that small. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have some shoes real similar to those, made by Hi-Tech. Those were amazingly good, pretty worn out now but I'd recommend them highly. I wore them through a lot of blackberries and they held up and are still comfortable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Here's a better picture of that mojave rattler. My wife showed me the "enhance" feature. Anyway you can see his color much better here, enjoy:

I have a good reload for snakes. I use 177 pellets and fill around the voids around the pellets with #8 shot. The pellets will key hole and really do a number on a snake.

Have you tried anti freeze for 15 minutes and rinse off. It should be seasoned and ready for whatever you want belts to hat bands or wall. Perhaps others have a more detailed explanation of this procedure.

.02 worth.
