Baby Shower Blues

I got kicked out of the house yesterday for a baby shower, so far so good for me :ROFLMAO:.
What’s a guy to do when he gets kicked out? Coyote hunt, what else?

Turned out to be a rainy ☔ afternoon so I almost didn’t go. I’ve tried coyote hunting in the rain before without success, but this was just a light drizzle so I went. I only had about an hour of light so I hustled out and made two stands.
The first stand was a blank, so I moved 500 or so yards and set up again. I set the call out about 25 yards and started calling using Tebbes Barbwire Bunny. Within a minute I see a coyote running in at full speed. It ran right up to the call, which I had set on a rock about 1/3 the size of a VW Bug, it jumped up looked at the call and did a back flip off the rock without ever breaking stride. I was never able to get him in the scope as he ran past me at about six yards. I tried bark stopping him but he just kicked it into a higher gear and was gone just like that.

I have finally figured out my problem. According to Einstein, I'm insane :ROFLMAO:. I think it was Einstein who said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Not being the brightest bulb 💡in the pack has led to me being a slow learner. The common thread on every coyote that I haven’t been able to shoot this year has been call distance. I only set it out about 20-30 yards. Nearly every coyote that I have called in has come right into the call. I'm talking feet and a couple of yards on every one. Since the areas that I hunt are thick sagebrush and or boulder fields I’m not giving myself a chance to get on the coyote. I’m going to change my strategy, which has worked at times, and move the call out to 50 or more yards. Hopefully this will give me more time and I can put some coyotes down. Insanity check....

Here is another idea. Handcall. That way, he comes right to you. When I handcall, I shoot them from 5 yards to 50 yards.

Day hunting - handcall.

Great story, maybe take a shotgun next time lol.
Last time I went out I took a shotgun and called in a double. One held up at 140 yards and the second one came in just to chase off the first one. He held up at 100 yards. Couldn't get a shot on either one 🤬 :ROFLMAO:

If I only take a shotgun or a rifle I would rather have rifle coyotes get away at 100 to 200 yards than let hard charging coyotes get away at 15 to 20 yards away.

When I went coyote calling this last Wednesday by myself, I carried both a rifle and a shotgun with me on at least half of the stands I made.
