mike is building me my oly ar upper. i want back up - but totally reliable, match quality, m.o.a. iron PEEP sights for it.

this .223 flat-top will have a 20" oly 1:8 sum barrel, with built-in compensator, and a floating quad rail (covered). i have a weaver grand slam (40 objective) and two leupold quick release lever sets. i ordered the medium, and tall quick release lever rings for a possible flip-up rear sight.

what brand/model/style rear peep should i use? mount a flip-up under the tall or medium rings, or take the scope off, and utilize a handle?

front sight? fixed peep post? flip up? brand/model? must have dead moa peeps.

i appreciate any help guys. remember, i want this to be match quality.

most of the rest of this rifle is "done". now if i can just figure out how i am going to aim this varmint/predator/match rifle, it'll be nice...

Aeee, I am not familiar with the rings you are talking about, but A.R.M.S makes a very good low profile flip up rear sight (#40L). This little beauty is low enough to lay down below all but the scopes with the tightest clearance. I have a fixed front sight on my flattop and it is just fine, but on my next one I will probably go with a flip up front also. Before you mount your scope, though, check out where your cheek weld will be. For the flattop you will probably want a fairly high mount. Good luck.

i will (be one of the first in the nation) to have the new magpul adjustable stock (magpul.com). the cheek position will be just fine/adjustable... but i am paying for it too. they want a pretty penny for the adjustable stock.

blackrifle- what fixed front sight do you have, and can you see it through your glass? what flip up front sight would you use if you could do it all over?

above all else: do you match shoot, and are you sub moa/cloverleafing with the ironsights as they are?

aeee, if you truly want a match quality sight set you will have to use your carry handle and replace the post and apeture with such or go all the way and use match sights that to me have no place on a hunting gun. (too big and delicate). They will likely cost as much as your upper did.

If you want a BUIS that is perfectly capable for a hunting gun then the ARMS 40L is the way to go, you can always replace the front post with a slimmer one. If you want a rugged front sight use the original, it will not bother you while looking through a scope. If you have alot of money to burn I'd suggest PRI they make a flip up that is nice but runs about $170.00.

I had BUIS's on mine but since I never needed them they were turned into more useful parts, quality scopes are worth their price and if I want to shoot irons I can use a carry handle.

On the ring issue the problem most people have is getting the scope high enough to see through comfortably, you can only adjust that stock as low as the buffer tube. I paid alot of money for a crane stock myself and after using it for a while now I've decided it's worth every penny I spent. I've seen the new Magpul and am sure it will be right at home on a long range gun.

I have had good luck with the one offered by DPMS. We use these on our Tac rifles. I prefer the new one with a nut for use with a torque wrench.

Aeee, Magpul told me my batch of PRS stocks shipped Wednesday. They sent me some samples of their anti-tilt followers for me to modify for the WSSM mags. I have gotten pretty good results with the "green" followers but if these work better, I will use them.

The A.R.M.S. 40L is good, but check out Troy and GG and G also, Yhankee Hill makes some pretty good back ups too. Why did you decide on the MagPul stock, just because of the adjustment? I have been giving them some thought but they look rather heavy and a might clunky for me and I just can't seem to give up on using Vltor.

1. the upper is custom from mike at oly. it has a sum brl., therefore, it has no original/stock front or rear sight. i am starting from scratch.

2. i understand that this (iron sights) may cost money. i want the best inbetween sight set-up for match shooting ("bloop"(?)tube, which i am not sure if i need with a 20" brl.) and for hunting. i am going for inbetween.

3. is there a match grade carry handle that i can "slap on" the flat top after detaching the leupold quick release lever mounts/rings/scope? i do not have one at all, and with a flat top, i am curious if a flip up or carry is best for sub moa groups. on a bad day, with open iron peeps, no glasses (i am very nearsighted), no sandbags, with body armour, kevlar, gloves, and a totally stock m-4, i can shoot expert with little to no practice.i must have peeps. dummies like me can use them.

4. magpul stocks: the reason i wanted an adjustable stock was because i intend to use this rifle for match and varmints/predators. it needs to be versitile. the difference between summer and winter clothing can change your sight picture, trigger pull, and so on. i wanted a colapseable m4 style stock, but i am told they are not as stable as a solid. that $255.- magpul had better be solid. they said it'd ship wed. i am anxious, but then again, my upper is not done yet, and i still have to decide on a jewell (?)trigger, and iron sights... they included the free followers in my order, too.

i really appreciate all the suggestions. i will look at the aformentioned iron sights, and return feedback.
