Does anyone bait for coyotes. Is it even worth it or should i just stick to calling them. if you do bait what do you use and how do you set it up. Thanks

Good gosh, man have you no shame? Have you no sporting blood. Baiting coyotes? What kind of sport is that? That's not hunting! That's as bad as deer feeders! The poor animal shows up to eat and you kill it. There's no skill in it. There's no challenge to it!
But man it's fun to shoot coyotes ain't it? Cows dear boy. Yep! Dead cows. Horses too. Goats! Pigs! You name it. Check with farmers and cattlemen. I know several and they drag them out into an open field for me. One even put a round bale for me to use for cover. It's great!!
Had you going, didn't I?

Why shucky darns man......I thought every time I blowed on a wounded rabbit call I was baiting WITH ME AS THE BAIT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

ps...don't ya just love it when they help ya like that deal with the bale. Great cooperation and assistance in my book.

Hey Brondon, bait is good, especially when its -30 deg. When I first started calling, we would get too darned cold and very little success when the snow got deep. Now its all bait and shooting shacks set up all over the place. Best is near a deer yard with the help of a frozen river. We have a deluxe shack here on one side of the river and bait of choice on the other side, around 110 yds. Even at nite when the moon is full, the heater on, you are comfy and have great success. Can use road kill deer or moose works the best, cows are fine too when the snow is deep. Handy snowmobile to pull the bait to the site also. Good luck. Oh yeh, I know guys who bait near there home within 300 yds and have great success even during the day right out the kitchen window!!!!

I know people who hunt over dead cows and just slaughter the yotes. I need to check the local laws to see what we can or cannot not do in wisconsin but I'd like to pick up a pile of road killed deer and start if legal.

This intrigues me because I hunt a couple of cattle places and they have dead cows occasionally.
Do you guys just set up and wait? What time of day? How long do you wait?

They usually have bait sights set up you can see 400-500 yards from the road and drive by them after dark spotting yotes by moonlight. The one guy I know who dose this told me he shot over 3 dozen yotes last year.

If you know of any good beaver trappers in your area see if they'll give or sell you the carcases from their catch.I had a trapper selling me his catch for $1.00 per carcass, and he was happy to get the money.Beaver makes an excellent coyote bait. The smell of fat and the strong odor of beaver castor is effective even in the coldest weather. It's alot easier to work with than a dead cow or horse. Fasten it down though so they can't drag it off.
