baking soda in brass tumbler

Does anybody know if baking soda will do any harm to brass during the cleaning stage ? I mixed about a cup in with my medium to help polish the brass. It came out nice, but I don't know if it will do any harm to the brass or powder/primer.

So your asking after the fact?

Yes, I'm asking after the fact. Its not like I banged my nieghbor's wife & then asked for permission. I put 20 old cases in the tumbler to see how it would come out. So I stand to lose 20 cases & some medium at this point. I think I could still sleep at night if it went bad. Baking soda works well on alloys in a bead blaster, so I thought I'd try it. I makes them look good & the finish is smooth. I don't have internet @ home, or I would have asked before I did it. I am asking now because I want to know before I prime & load any of them. So, do you know ?

I pour brasso into my corncob...baking soda ought to be fine, unless you spill water into the tumbler & turn it on...Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Without experimentation, how many new products would we have? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

You could market those as "Scent Free Ammo for hunting"... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I got this from a gunsmith 40 years ago: To clean sizing lube off cases just put them in a jar with white gas and shake. It worked, you just had to let the white gas evaporate off before reloading otherwise it would contaminate the the primer or powder. Others since then have suddered at the thought of what I use to do. As long as your getting the medium and BS out of the cases, reload and be happy. That is what this is all about. I wouldn't hesitate a second and might try it on my next load into the shaker.
