Ballistic, Milldot, or Plex Reticle on a .223

Turrets are bulky and take too much time in the field IMO. Mildot is much faster since they are used as a scale to gauge the size of a target with known dimensions and gives you fixed points for quick ranging based on a mildot being 3.6" at 100yds and 10.8" at 300yds and so forth. This is why both the army and marine corp adopted mildots, albeit they chose different dimensions for the mildots for some reason. Probably because of competition between them. so when you talk to an army vs. marine guy you'll get differnt numbers. The trick is learning the dimensions of the dots relative to the distance and then add math. It's not for everyone but even if you don't get into the nitty gritty of using mildots they are very effective simply using the dots as reference points. HTH's.
