Ballistic Tip vs. Hollow Point fur friendly??

Has anyone had better luck with a hollow point bullet vs ballistic tip as far as being fur friendly? I have used 32gr & currently using the 40gr Hornady ballistic tip bullets for my .204 & both are fine for a front chest entry, but a side shot behind the shoulder blows a pretty good size hole. Hornady makes a 45gr hollow point, has anyone tried it or another brand of hollow point rounds with better success? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Thanks,

I'm not sure about the .204 but with my 22-250 I prefer the ballistic tip. Usually makes a clean entrance wound and a clean exit wound(if any)... Hollow points, at least the Sierras I use, seem to expand so quick they leave a nasty ENTRANCE wound! Though I can assure you they never make it out the other side.

I have had the exact opposite results. I prefer the 53 sierra match. I have had good luck with the 55 gr noslers, but the 53 sierras shoot better. Tried the 50g nosler and hornady. LOTS of splashes. To much velocity and too thin a jacket for coyotes. Maintain

I think that both have good small entrances and very few if any exits. But as far as over all the better bullet is hands down the Hornady Vmax. I have been using them for several years I have only had one splash and only one that had any fur damage.

35 or 40 grain Berger hollow points, whichever one shoots best out of your rifle. My hunting partner and I have been using the 35's because that's what shoots best out of our CZ's. Our loads are leaving the barrel at about 3800 to 3900 fps. Out to 300 yards or so they're just deadly.
