Barnes Bullets has just announced the holding company that ownes Remington Arms and entered into an agreement to aquire Barnes bullets in Utah.

Remington sees the future of an all copper bullet for environmental reasons.

Might be seeing the end of another high quality product. I hate to see
this kind of thing, but I don't blame the owners a bit. I did the same thing
with my company.

Man, Cerberus Capital is buying up all of the firearms companies and now bullet makers! Yikes!

So far off the top of my head... Bushmaster, Remington, Marlin, H&R/NEF and Cobbs Arms. Think I might be missing two or three.

Wonder if they'll still sell them as component bullets? Hope so - Hornady's still gonna give 'em some competition with the GMX line, but it's not overly tested yet. It's a bit scary with one company starting to own sooooo much of American arms co's - is George Soros an owner in Cerebus?

Interesting find via search - no backing on it all [beeep] - http://www.reloadersnest.com/forum/post.asp?method=TopicQuote&TOPIC_ID=12403&FORUM_ID=44

Nothing I can do about it, but I'm not jumping for joy, either.

There's one primary reason for buying out another competitor's business; to cut the competition.

When you own all the big names, you can set your own prices, set your own quality standards, and so forth.

IOW, you make the rules, and others WILL accept it because there's really no other choice.

Doubt that? Look at the shortage of ammo we've had for the last 14-16 months. Think most people are picky about what kind of ammo they're buying? They're happy to get anything at all so that they can go shooting and hunting.

And I'm not saying it'll necessarily get bad with low quality and high prices, but the bean counters are out to make the most money with the least amount of effort.

That's business these days.

I just bought a bag of Remington 243 brass. Out of the fifty cases two were dented so bad that I didn't dare use them. If thats the quality will see in the future, lets hope someone else comes up with a similar bullet.

Hornady and Nosler both make a similar bullet. Biggest difference seem's to be the Hornady and Nosler are made of guilding metal rather than copper.

I would think they'd be careful about messing the bullet up. Mess it up and what do they sell from Barnes? Hornady, Speer and Sierra probably all sell a lot more bullet's than Barnes. They got a good product but if they want to keep it selling they better take care of it.

Dakota, DPMS, etc

Not to hijack the trend here i was going to buy a new remington cdl in 257 weatherby but after reading all the bad about remington the last 3 months im going to have one built. I just read on here that remington owns marlin my uncle just bought a new marlin 30-30 and a 308 marlin express. he brought them out to site them both in after he saved a month for scopes and mounted up. Deer season was about 3 weeks away he came out we sited in the 308 went to site in the 30-30 and click he jacked it again click. He was getting Pissed off i looked at the gun and there was no fiering pin. So the rifle could not of been test fired from the factory. he bought it from gander mountain and they would not give him a new gun or nothing. gander mountain had there gun smith fix the one he had. the smith had a new pin in stock but he had to make the new pin fit the gun would not fire every time until he did some fitting. There is no excuse for things like that to happen and it seems to be happening a lot more then it should with remington. You would think with jobs as hard as they are to find they would get some people in there that can about the work they do instead for jsut collecting a pay check. Guns keep going up in price while the quailty goes down even faster.
I would say if they bought barnes out there bullets will go down hill in a real hurry. Sorry to say but seems to be the pattern as of lately. Remington is not Goverment owned are they. LOL

Not good news at all.

First Knight goes out of business, and now Barnes sells out.

Both have been my favorites for many years.

I better stock up on some .458" 300g Barnes Originals for my muzzleloader. Those things get hard to find between runs already. I hope they don't have accoutants start re-egineering them. I can see them making the thick jacket as thin as possible to increase the bottom line.

peace.

no kidding those are one AWESOME AWESOME muzzleloader bullet, they shoot ragged holes from my savage with a black harvester sabot, shot an elk with one in the shoulder, the elk went 50 yards and piled up.

It is not good for us either way

I am surprised someone else didn't buy barnes it has been rummored for years they were looking for a buyer. Cerberus must have been the only one with the coin. They were not giving it away

They have a great facility there in PG

I got a toured of it and the test range several years ago it was amazing

there are 14 firearm related companies under the cerberus umbrella that i know of....
dakota
dpms
bushmaster
remington
marlin
cobb manuf
advanced armament corp
lc smith
parker
h&r
nef
barnes
eotac (tac clothing)
intc (?)
and don't forget that remington announced awhile back they were going to acquire an amer handgun producer....

Man, I hate to have to stock up on all their different bullets that I shoot. I may have to take out a loan. They shoot and work awesome but they ain't cheap.

Barnes is no longer located in PG. They just built a new facility in Mona Utah which is about 5 miles north of Nephi. Just off the freeway. They've been in it less than a year.

This is sad news. I hope Coni, Randy and Jessica stay on.

I bet they start making triangle shaped bullets

But really, I wonder it this will change Federal's use of alot if the Barnes brand bullets in their ammunition?
