I tried the barrel break in thing twice. I no longer have either gun cuz they shot absolutely terrible. The rest of my rifles I just cleaned before I shot them, and then I shoot until the gun decides it needs cleaning. Even then, I very seldom use any brush...if ever. I use any of the foaming bore cleaner products out there, patch it out until the patches come out clean. They start off blue/green the first few patches, and they get progessively cleaner, which I presume is removing copper. I repeat the process if needed.
My varmint/PD guns I clean when they tell me they need it, as I shoot them pretty much year round, and my 280/300/338 I clean after deer/bear/elk season and put em away. They all shoot good enough to know it wasn't the guns fault when I miss a shot. I missed. Not the gun.
Just my way of skinning a cat I guess.
