barrel cleaning brushes

Forgive me for asking what is probably a taboo question, but what do you think of using a bore snake for occasional between shots cleaning?

I don't use them anymore, but there's nothing wrong with boresnakes for getting out the majority of powder fouling in the field. They do little to nothing with copper buildup, however.

Keep in mind, however, that the "rope" of the boresnake accumulates grit and debris, which embeds on the cleaning surface of the rope. Keeping the snakes clean is important. I used to put mine in a laundry bag and toss them in the washing machine on a regular basis.

Don't use a copper solvent with a bronze brush (or anything else bronze). Many copper solvents will desolve a bronze brush (comes out blue, copper comes out green). If you doubt me on this, lay a bronze cleaning brush in a nylon container of copper solvent for a couple of days. The blue stuff at the bottom is desolved bronze, Try same with a piece of copper and it will be green.
