Barrel contour vs suppressor weight

Is a lightweight .625 barrel too thin or will it be affected too much by having a SilencerCo Omega (14oz) threaded on the end of it? Should I go with a .750 barrel instead? It's for a hunting rifle, but also short-mid range target shooting so I want repeatable precision. That's why I'm leaning towards the .750 contour...or would a suppressor not affect the .625 as much as I think? Thanks for any insight.

If a little extra weight doesn't bother you, I'd definitely go with the larger contour. Even taking your suppressor completely out of the mix, barrel contour is one of those areas where bigger is most often better.

A .625 muzzle diameter is about the minimum you want for a suppressor with 1/2x28 threads and .725 is about the minimum for 5/8x24.

I was worried about one of mine I had threaded. A 24" .625 buggy whip. I hung my YHM steel can on it and it shoots just as well as it did before. Sure the poi changed a little more than a heavier barrel would have but that's no matter as I'll only shoot it suppressed anyway.

Especially if you're looking at a shorter barrel I'd think you'll be alright with the lighter one.

I just re-read your post and saw you're talking about target shooting also. The heavier contour might be more accurate for larger strings of shots.

I would go with the heavy profile. Weight is always a fun subject and is relative. Here is my opinion, guys worry about and extra pound on a rifle but carry an extra 30 or 40 on their gut every day. If you get tired toting it around you can work out and get in better shape or take several breaks in route.

With everything there is a trade off. I prefer a heavier but quiet weapon myself. Great choice on suppressing it.

It's for a 16" 6.8 SPC. Bison Armory Recon profile vs Wilson Combat Tactical Lightweight profile. They both have 5/8x24 threads and the muzzle diameters are .720 and .740, respectively, so there is plenty for the suppressor to shoulder up against. Since it's only 16", it might be a good idea to go with .750 since it won't add too much weight.

I run a 16" Bison 6.8 with the recon profile and an SAS Reaper. It's probably my favorite killing rifle I have. It's killed a truckload of coyote and many mature whitetail.

Spring for the Bison recon, you won't notice the weight, accurate and plenty of meat for a suppressor.
