Barrel length & velocity loss for 7mm?

I've got a Savage 110 that needs a new barrel. I'm sticking with 7mm Rem Mag, but will be shooting/ hunting with it suppressed and I want to keep it as short as possible. The can is 8" long and want to know how short I can go on the barrel while still maintaining acceptable velocity.

I wouldn't go shorter than 22". It would be kinda cutting the legs out from under it. But suppressed with light loads and heavy bullets or just a suppressor with regular charged loads? Maybe thing obout going to a 7-08 or a 280?

If you go below 24-inch on a magnum, you may as well go to a lighter round and not waste so much powder. The 7 needs that barrel length to really be all that it can be.

What bullet will you use and what kind of distances do you consider your max?
I shoot short barrels all the time.

150gr range and probably 600 yards for paper, and needs to kill an elk inside 300.

I have a 7mm SAUM with an 18" tube that runs the 162 A-Max at 2759 fps.
A 18" 7mm WSM with a 180 JLK @ 2570
A 17" 7mm Rem Mag Imp with a 180 grain @ 2640

It is a 7mm Rem Mag Improved.

How hot are you loading them to get 2640fps?
