Barrel Length??

I have two 7mm mags. I have not shot either of them yet. One is a Browning A-bolt and the other is a Ruger M77 Mark II. The Ruger has a 24 inch barrel and the A-bolt has a 26 inch barrel. After I shoot them, I'm going to pick one to be my big game rifle for the next few years. I'm sure it will be the A-bolt. I want to add a muzzle brake. My question is....can I have the barrel on the A-bolt cut down and add a brake keeping it about the same over all length without giving up to much FPS and accuracy?? I'm open to any and all advice.

Thanks in advance for your input!

After a titanium plate in my neck and a couple of back sugeries, I can live with the noise more than the recoil.

I don't know a lot about powder burn but I was thinking the Ruger with the shorter barrel would be designed to burn all of the powder and make the most of the round. Is the extra 2 inches on the browning really giving me any me any more FPS or accuracy?

It won't necessarily change your accuracy but your fps it will. Burning powder within so many inches of barrel is really more of a cartridge design/how you load the cartridge thing, than the firearm itself. 7 rem mag is a big case with lots of slow burning powder will only reach max fps in a long freaking barrel. That being said if you learn your dopes, and can place your shot the extra two inches of barrel won't make the critters any more dead.
