Yes, the threads would be so thin you could break them off when tightening your can.
What can did you buy and Is your can direct thread 1/2-28, 5/8-24 or is it a QD style?
I guess I don't get it as it doesn't matter what the attachment method, your barrel still needs threads. If you bought a 30cal can your probably going to need 5/8-24 thread which means your barrel needs to measure .625 plus a little bit for a shoulder so the can or the adaptor seats against it.
I don't think they use 1/2-28 threads on rifle supressors larger than 22cal. Youve mentioned your can has 1/2-28 threads and if thats infact the case its probably a 22cal can and you wont be able to shoot a 6x45 thru it. Something isn't adding up, need more information.
