Barrel threading

Ive got a 6x45 i want to cut 1/2x28 threads on, is there any issue with this being done as far as the wall being too thin or anything of that nature? Reason being Ive got a can on the way with 1/2 threads and just wondering if it would just be better to buy an adapter.

Yes, the threads would be so thin you could break them off when tightening your can.
What can did you buy and Is your can direct thread 1/2-28, 5/8-24 or is it a QD style?

I guess I don't get it as it doesn't matter what the attachment method, your barrel still needs threads. If you bought a 30cal can your probably going to need 5/8-24 thread which means your barrel needs to measure .625 plus a little bit for a shoulder so the can or the adaptor seats against it.

I don't think they use 1/2-28 threads on rifle supressors larger than 22cal. Youve mentioned your can has 1/2-28 threads and if thats infact the case its probably a 22cal can and you wont be able to shoot a 6x45 thru it. Something isn't adding up, need more information.

So now you divide that by 2 to get wall thickness on both sides = .128ish

Now you have to subtract the thread depth which I don't know off hand but I wouldn't exactly call it plenty of metal left.
 
Its going on a hbar 6x45 AR and the can is a Liberty Constitution was built to shoot a 6mm bullet. Well at the time when I ordered the can me and the guy was talking about putting a can on it but at the time I didn't have the money for a 30 cal can and a 22cal can so he said why not just get that one bored out to 6mm. At the time it was a great idea till a week ago when I took the comp off the AR and got to looking at the barrel. Too late to order a diff can because my paperwork is already at the batfe.
Edit: The can is direct 1/2x28 and the threads on the rifle are 5/8x24.

Why would you have needed both a 30 and 22 cal cans?
 
I wanted a multipurpose can to shoot on my center fire 22 cals and one for my 22lr. But mainly one for my 6x45 for a lil hush hush whitetail hunting. The can I bought is a take apart so it fit all my needs but didn't realize at the time the barrel may be too thin when cut down on my 6x45. The 30 cal can would have been w better fit for the 6mm in hindsight but wouldn't work too well with my 22lr and didn't have the extra $600 at the time to opt for a dedicated 22lr can and a 30 can for my 6mm and up.
 
You will probably have to contact Liberty and see what they can do. They may be able to change it to 5/8x24. If so, maybe you can get your dealer to send it in so they can do the work while you are still waiting for your stamp.
 
i dont think the barrel is too thin with a .243 bore and a 1/2-28 thread. i have 9mm barrels that are threaded 1/2-36, from the factory.

if the can cannot be changed to a 5/8-24 thread, have the barrel re-threaded to 1/2-28
