Barrett Fieldcraft

I don't own one, but have shot one and built a walnut stock for 5 of them. 4 are owned by the Ron Barrett and his staff. The other one was for a customer.
Very nice rifles and very accurate right out of the box. Also extremely light. They use a Timney trigger, carbon fiber stock.

I was looking at Kimber’s and Tikka T3 Superlite in 308 and the guy showed me the Barrett.

I was told that the action is bedded as well and could get an 18” threaded barrel too.

The Kimber Montana would be on par with the Fieldcraft and both are factory bedded. I prefer the Montana stock over the Fieldcraft.
The Montana is threaded also.
I know all the rage now is to buy a can, but man, I can't stand the sight of them nor the extra weight, but to each there own.

Fieldcraft is modeled after Melvin Forbes New Ultralight Arms rifles. Barrett bought out Forbes Rifles, which was a semi-custom production rifle company that Melvin was in partnership with that started manufacturing rifles that replicated his custom rifles. Forbes Rifles went under and Barrett bought the rights and old inventory. Barrett has made several modifications to the action that are an improvement over the NULA. Fieldcraft is a great lightweight hunting rifle. They shoot really well, partly due to the full length bedding job from the tang to the tip of the forend. Helps stiffen up those thin barrels. I’d take a Fieldcraft over a Montana hands down. I’ve had three Montana’s that struggled to shoot accurately, even after lots of load development and tinkering. The Fieldcrafts have been shooters. Barrett is considering making a run of “micro action” .223 Rem this year modeled after the NULA 20 short. That would be a great walking predator rifle.

While I liked the Fieldcraft Rifle, its performance, looks, ect. I didn't find it any more accurate than the 6 Kimbers I own. I've heard several say they've had poor accuracy from theirs and I can't doubt them, but in my case, along with others I know, accuracy has been great.
We worked with Barrett on restocking some walnut and they were good to work with. My boss spent a day or so at the factory and saw first hand the work they do. What surprised me was who the barrel maker was. I would have never guessed that one. Stocks, trigger assembly, and barrels are contracted out, but the complete action is done in house along with assembly.
If I was in the market for a new lightweight rifle the Fieldcraft would be a very good choice along with the Kimber.

I looked at the Barrett and it has some good features for a decent price. Sako seemed like a better choice to me.
I have also had trouble with Kimber and don't even consider them anymore. Having owned many Tikka's and now a T3X Superlite for the last couple years. It has taken a bunch of coyotes at all ranges, with a couple recently at over 600 yds.
