Barska Scopes

Ok I did a search here and could not find anything on this subject newer than 2013, so, I as wondering if anyone here has experience with the Barska brand.
I'm looking to go up to 50 mm objective for more light,,,I've had good luck with my Simmons 40 mm and they make a comparable 50 but saw the Barska while shopping

friends dont let friends buy barfska.

when you try to buy feature packed items at a fraction of the cost of their competitor, that cost difference has to come from somewhere - usually somewhere in the quality department. In the case of optics, thats usually the lenses, internals (the adjustment mechanics, and repeatability of it - or lack of), or often both.

i hear they make decent hammers or boat anchors for a small canoe or paddle boat though.

lol, ok, people said the same thing about Simmons when I bought it, turns out its a [beeep] fine optic, so I had to ask lol

Some of the worst optics out there. Save up 150-200 and get a Leupold, Nikon or vortex. I think you would be much happier in the long run.

Dusty, thought that was Ray Charles?!

No, those were the BSA scopes that he endorsed. Remember? You got one free with the purchase of a 12 pack of Pepsi. Uh-huh uh-huh.

Some of the earlier Simmons were made in Japan and are not all that bad..I have a Whitetail Expedition that is Japanese made and is comparable to some of the Nikons and Bushnells.

HOWEVER..Most Simmons are Chinese junk right along with the Barska...

RUN!!!

While I have a couple of early Japanese Tasco(8x32) and Simmons(2.5x10 AeTec) that I found in pawn shops years ago, I would put Barska in the same pot as more recently made Tascos and Simmons....They are fine for stressed budgets and no long term plans for use but, like others, save your pennies for a better quality Vortex, Sightron, or even an entry level Leupold...

Most of the less expensive (i.e. cheaper) units tend to lock up movement of the elevation/windage internal mechanisms or the reticles tend to jump out of place for no discernible reason...

Even the entry level models of the ones I listed above have lifetime, no bull warranties..even if you buy used and don't have the original receipt...Can't be said of many of the others...

A buddy of mine had a Barska on a .243, went out calling one night and he missed a fox. Took it to the range and determined it was shooting almost 18" high. That experience alone was worth noting to not ever buy a Barska.

I should probably keep my mouth shut and not say that the Barska 3-9x 40 I have on one .223 has been a reliable scope and that I have no complaints. Holds zero good.
It is the only one I own but it has been a good scope.
