Barska scopes

Just wondering if any body has tried the Barska 6x24x44 tactial scope. Does it compare with bushnell elite or what does it compare for clarity?

I bought one about a year ago when a GM store opened near me and they had them on a promotional sale for $56, I believe. The optics seemed great and it appeared I had found a real bargain.

I mounted it on a 22-50 heavy barreled rifle I had, and the scope did not survive sighting it in before the adjustment dials gave up the ghost.

In hindsight, the $56 would have been much better spent toward an Elite scope. I have a couple of them and they are good quality for the money spent. I didn't even bother to send the Barska off for repairs. I just threw it in the junk where it belonged. A Barska scope is not comparable to a Bushnell Elite scope, IMHO.

I'm sure others will chime in with tales of 1000 rounds through a 458 Win Mag, but that was my one and last experience with a Barska scope.

Like the old saying, you get what you pay for. I knew better, but guess I was feeling overly optimistic that day.

pure junk......if you have extra $$$ to throw away, just donate it to P.M. it'll serve you wayyy better.

For what it's worth...

I've seen the Barska's advertised in the Sportsman's Guide and such....anything under $200 for a rifle scope get's the suspicious eye from me.
I can't afford the Leupolds, Burris, Nikon's, etc., anymore, so I opted to do a "best scope for the money" test running the last several years.
Buy one, then run it through it's paces, so to speak.

I've found that the Weaver's have been very good for the money spent, and hold up very well. Redfield's also, especially the older 5 Star ones (Tracker's are iffy). Both Weaver and Redfield are now owned by Meade Optics, as well as Simmons.
Two Simmons scopes that I bought for testing last year, got sent back the next week as they were pure junk. I didn't expect them to be a Leupold for the money spent or nothing, but I did expect them to be functional....they weren't at all.

Tasco's.........never mind....the older Japanese one's maybe.
Bushnell's (who also owns Tasco now).....the Elite series (3200 & 4200) only.

Sightron's are very good, but you're getting up there in price.
Swift's are my next option to test, and the gang at EA Brown have gone so far as touting them "as good as a Leupold" optically......I'll wait and see, but I remain skeptical.

One more thing, on those two Simmon's scopes that I bought, and regarding Meade Optics, when I contacted them regarding the scope's extremely poor quality, they offered an exchange, which I said no.
Then they then offered to allow me an upgrade to a Weaver, or Redfield at their cost.
I purchased a Weaver Grand Slam 6X20, for $160.00 (regularly $360.00), and a 2X8 pistol scope for $75.00 ($185.00), along with the Simmon's scopes returned to them.
I'm extremely happy with both Weaver's, and the Grand Slam's are excellent regarding optic's & features.
I just ordered a Natchez Redfield refurb'd 6X18X40 5 Star for $132.00, and we'll see how it performs. Regular money on them is about $245.00 or so.....so maybe?

Good luck,
Bob
