bb gun for predators???

Coyotecatcher, you make us smile. We remember when we were young hunters, and I encourage you to to keep hunting and learning.

I started out as you are. Shooting a grown coon with a BB gun will likey cause it to become very angry at you. You don't want that. For coyote, coon, fox and like sized critters, see if you and your dad can find some buckshot for that .410 shotgun. Buckshot will work, as will a slug. Be real careful and respect the damage that shotgun can do within about 30 yards. Respect the animal enough to not try to shoot it beyond that range.

Good luck to you Coyotecatcher - go get 'em!

When I was a boy with only a 10-pump BB gun to my name, I was limited to shooting rabbits and kill rabbits it did quite well (with carefully placed head shots). My father gave me instructions that squirrels were strictly off-limits because of their inherent toughness and I suspect he was correct. Now some of those 1,000 fps pellet guns out there may be a different story as as already been posted.
You have to get mighty close to your target and have absolute confidence in your shooting skills to effectively use a .410 bore shotgun--it really isn't a beginner's weapon at all. You'd probably be better served with a 20 gauge. Just my opinion. Good luck and happy hunting!
