I have a few places here with beaver causing trouble in a ditch, and people want me to remove them. Are they prime yet? If not, when will they be? And what are they worth right now?

Is there a season in Colorado? Often if you take them out for ADC work you aren't allowed to keep them, it varies state to state though. I doubt they would be very prime right now, the ones I have caught in the spring have been way thicker than fall beaver. Price varies on size, color, and how well they are handled.

Here you can keep them, as long as it is not a health and human safety issue. Their season opened on October 1st, so I don't even have to worry about it.

Your beavers you catch now will not be prime, if you want fully prime nice beavers usually its in December.

Below 5,000 feet Nov. 1-Mar. 15
5,000 to 8,500 feet Oct. 15-Apr. 30
Above 8,500 feet Oct. 15-May 15
Beaver tend to prime up later and hold longer than other furbearers. In problem access areas, it sometimes is necessary to take them too early or too late in order to be able to take them at all. Beaver pelts that are taken early often sell better than those that are taken late. Spring beaver often have fur badly damaged by fighting.

Beavers in Colorado are prime at there best around Jan. By later spring after ice off there hair will be ice broke. October and November beaver are worth about whatever the "hat market" is bringing which will be cheap. As said earlier, beaver are late primers, as well as rats,badger,cats.

Thanks for the chart Erict. I've been needing something like that. Otis told me about beaver priming today.

Well said. Most western Colorado "ditch" beaver are hatters at best with the abrasive silt in the water and bank dens hard to get garment quality.

I did not know that. Thank you. Are they still of less value than hut beavers, when they are prime? How much less?
