before or after??

Guys,
Quick question- Just getting into reloading and got the
tumbler I ordered yesterday. The instructions say to resize and
decap brass before polishing, but I know I've read where alot
of guys are tumbling everything first before resizing, etc.
I can see where tumbling first would keep your dies alot cleaner, but you would needd to run them again after sizing to remove excess lube, where as tumbling after resizing would be
taking care of it all with one run.Any other advantages with
one way over the other?? thanks, fifty5grains

i like tumbling mine before resizing and after resizing. when i tumble first, its easy for me spot any problems with the brass before i resize them because they are cleaner and like you already stated its better on the dies.

Quote:i like tumbling mine before resizing and after resizing+1...I have two tumblers and when I'm prepping brass, they are going just about full time...

I've made a practice of prepping my brass to the point of seating the primers and then it's stored until just before I'm ready to use it...Due to that practice, I want it clean for storage.. It doesn't take very long to charge the cases and seat the bullets for a specific load...

I clean mine before doing any depriming. As for the lube, I use One Shot and throw them in a towel after sizing and priming. After there are about 10 in the towel I wipe the lube off them. I dont like cleaning them after deprime because it packs the primer pocket full of tumbler media.

It's gunna cost ya money, but you might wunna try that new stainless steel tumbling media.
It won't stick in the primer pockets like other media.
There is an advertisement for it here on the board.
I plan on trying it, not just now though, got other stuff going on.

Thumlers tumbler and stainless steel media. Soap, warm water,a dash of lemishine and 2lbs. of DEPRIMED cases. you'll never go back. No cleaning primer pockets, shiny new cases inside and out, and if you neck size just do it. I use a hair dryer for five minutes to dry the cases.

I tumble before and after, I also use sizing wax and the second tumble you only need to let them tumble for about 5-10 mins.

If my brass is real dirty I will tumble before sizing, otherwise its lube, size & tumble, then poke out what may be stuck in the flash hole. I have 2 tumblers going when Im loading 1000 cases at a time.
