Benelli M4, M2 or the FNH SLP. Help me pick?

Alright guys, I want your opinions. I really want the Benelli M4 but the price tag is a bit much. I could afford but I cant pay that much for a shotgun and not feel like I just got violated. So I have been looking at the M2 tactical and the FNH SLP as well. I will be using it for Yotes as well as a home defense gun. At least that my excuse for buying it. So let me know if you guys have any experience with any of these shotguns. Thanks
 
I really like fnh products, but have never shot the. Slp although it looks and sounds good. But then again the feeling of violation will ease with time, especially if you have the scattergun you really wanted to show for it

HAHAHA that is an awesome way of looking at it !! That is something my buddies and I Would say to each other when we try to talk each other into doing something.

I have never shot the FNH either, but I do own a Winchester SX3 which is supposed to be the same action.
 
Man,a M4 is good enough for the USMC,that has to say something. Ultra dependable,tried & true,and gas operated...hard to beat. I too own a SX3,so I would agree,the FNH-SLP would be sweet also. I don't think you can go wrong!
 
I agree, the M4 is the my dream gun too, its just [beeep] expensive !!! I have heard good things about both but just cant decide. I think the gentleman from predator strikeforce has an M4 in one of his pics.
 
I have had an M4 for several years now and love it!! It has digested everything I have ever run through it, including the cheap Walmart trap loads. I put the night sights and a full choke on it. I'm sure I've put close to a thousand rounds through it and have never had any kind of malfunction. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a predator hunting shotgun or self defense shotgun.
 
I have both the M4 and M2. The M4 is heavier but will cycle anytime from any position. It also, for reasons that are not apparent to me other than weight, has far less felt recoil. The M2 has a downside that may or may not be an issue to you.

The M2 is inertia driven. To reliably cycle, you have to have the weapon shouldered or grasped firmly. Kind of like cycling issues with a loosely held 1911.

Doing my Tom Knapp/Tim Bradley impersonation I have tied to shoot the M2 from the hip and overhead. From time to time, the gun will not cycle from those positions. The inertia system requires a solid mount to work properly. It seems to me that there may be situations in a defense scenario where that could be a problem.
 
Right about the gas operation making it recoil less, that combined with the weight should make it a relatively soft shooting gun. Thats why out of the 3 I am looking at the m4 and the SLP are my top 2 picks.
 
I would say you are on the right track. Some will claim inertia is more reliable,some will claim gas is. I personally believe with mininum upkeep,there is no difference between the two.
 
I wrestled with the same sticker shock that you are before I got up enough nerve to take the plunge. It's not easy to spend that much dough on a gun, but it is my dream gun and you only live once. I have zero regrets with my purchase. The Eotech was the icing on the cake! If you buy the M4, I have some accessories you might be interested in. Good shotgunning!

Yeah Yeah Yeah......lol......I am pretty sure I am getting the M4. Shoot my wife even called me a pansy and told me to just go get the dang gun I want and quit being dumb. She is right, if I settle for another gun based solely on the price there is a good chance I will regret it. Thank the lord I have been blessed with a few side jobs that I did specifically in order to buy this shotgun, but I am too [beeep] cheap when it comes to buying myself anything. I will be buying this in the next couple of weeks and for sure by the end of the year. Benelli has a 200 dollar rebate on this gun that ends on the 1st.

I spoke with you about this gun before Tom, I saw a picture of you with this gun and a couple of yotes. I will be asking you your advice for sure on accessories, chokes and such. Thank you guys for your input
 
I know you are talking Benelli but my dad shoots a Beretta Xtrema II that is sweet. Very little recoil and can handle the lightest load without any cycling issues, patterns great too.
 
The Xtrema is a nice shotgun but I am looking at getting something in a tactical/home defense shotgun that I can also use to put down coyotes. In all honesty, its gives me an excuse to buy a cool new gun that I have always wanted when I say that it is a home defense piece !! lol
 
Alright I did it, I got the Benelli M4 finally. This thing is sweet !!! Im still feeling the sting but I did end up getting a smoking deal on it. I got 15% off at Cabelas with their employee pricing coupon plus I used some of my points so I ended up getting it for 1400 out the door. Oh and Benelli has a 200 dollar rebate right now as well. Id post a pic but I have no idea how to do that. Thanks for the input fellas.
 
Good choice. I think there is a picture posting tutorial somewhere on the Main Page. Enjoy your new shooter, I'm betting it'll be a coyote death punch!
 
My answer to OP would be the Benelli M4 because I own and enjoy one. I wanted the Desert Camo instead of the tac black for coyote hunting.

I don't have a basis for comparison to the other choices in the subject. I think GC has the M2.

BTW, I waited and looked and finally found a gently used one that helped lower that NIB sticker shock.
