I was wondering when GC would show up, you're the member I was thinking of.
I appreciate all the responses so far. I've done some searching for info and found several discussions regarding M2/SBE's. One point that I saw several times was that due to the action system, the recoil is similar to a pump(of course someone else argued the other way). I had a synthetic 870, the recoil was bad...real bad. I don't really want to go back there. Can any of you guys provide feedback on this? To me, the 1187 kicks quite a bit less then my previous 870. I'm sure it's additional weight helps too.
Anyway, how would you rate the recoil using heavy turkey/slug loads?
I am also trying to find out if there is something wrong with my 1187. Searching has revealed that some people have o-rings last for years, others have them go out after 2 boxes of shells. A burr on the gas ports has been mentioned several times. I'm gonna take it apart tonight and check for burrs. IF I can get it straightened out, I'll probably keep it due to cost.
Thanks!
Jim

I also shoot Benelli Super 90's, I'm on my 3rd one. I personally like the Montifeltros, they just fit me better. The only 3" shell I shoot are the "Dead Coyote" loads. The recoil is minimal considering how light they are. I keep making the mistake of letting someone shoot the gun then selling it to them. My gundealer seems to be happy as I keep buying new ones. I've had two Montifeltros and a M1. Sure looking at a new M2 now.

Offical Post Hijack Notice: Bob, do ya not love your Monte, I just got the Ultra Light and it is beyond words!

We return you to your normal programming.

My gun is the older M1S90 camo turkey w/24" inch barrel. I don't have any use for the 3.5" shell of the SBE, the 3" M1 does it all just fine for me. From knocking crows out of the air, turkey, predators, small game if I chose to, pest around the barnlot such as coons, feral cats, ect..., whatever I call on it for there has never been a disappointment from my M1. Light, quick handling and responsive, and sure as death and taxes, she's a killer. Recoil doesn't bother me, I'm lucky that way (or dumb!). The newer guns with the recoil system built in, M2/SBE 2 are supposed to be even more user friendly. Nearly all/any problems associated with the Benelli's (darned few!) seem to always be about the SBE and not the shorter M1 series.

Consider yourself lucky! That crazy light 870 I had gave me a headache from shooting turkey loads!

Well, things are looking down for the 1187. Remington emailed back basically telling me that tearing them up this fast is not normal and to look for burrs. I looked. On the smooth bore barrel, there are some burrs on the gasports. I slid the barrel on and off repeatedly and there was no damage to the o-ring. I put it on and shined a light down in there and there is plenty of space for the o-ring to slide by the gas ports without contacting the burrs. No burrs aside from those.
The other issue I have with it is that the chrome is burned through on the magazine tube where the gasports are. It's progressed quite a bit since I bought it. So, I guess I'm trading it in on something. Maybe an M2 with Comfortech...

Just got a steal on an M2 ($875) it was sold and returned to the dealer unfired, so he had to sell it as used.

Put about 200 rounds thru it so far, no problems, handles great, patterned it and it was dead on.

Recoil reduction system is the shiznit.

BTW, I got rid of an 1187 because of that )(*&*&_*&&!!!!! O-ring.

Then get a Beretta Extrema II. Recoil is lighter than the Benelli and since beretta owns Benelli, the quality is as high or higher.

Been shooting the SBE with "Dead Coyote" loads and it's great. First bought a Rem. SP-10 for Coyotes but wasn't happy.... very, very happy with the SBE.

I sold all makes of shotguns and the gun I hunt water fowl with? The Benelli SBE 2 with the comfortech stock and a 28" barrel. The gun rifle only malfunctioned when it was brand new with the lightest loads in it shooting 5 stand. After about 3 light boxes the gun would cycle anything from the cheapest to heavy shot without ANY problems. I recomend the comfortech stock since the rifle is SOOO light they tend to buck a little with the cheaper stock.
