Berry's 55 grain FMJBT

Has anyone loaded these for plinking/target practice ammo? My local gun shop has been keeping a steady supply of them available (albeit a bit overpriced). Since they're still reasonably priced and the only thing in stock in my area, I grabbed a box and did a quick ladder test with TAC. Accuracy was a bit mediocre, so I was wondering - has anyone else used these with any success?

Any thoughts on what reasonable accuracy expectations should be for them? I know mileage will vary, depending on rifle, shooter, and other components. I’m just looking for an idea of how far to push it with these. Like - if you’re getting 2 MOA groups out of them, do you call it good enough or try to squeeze a little more out of them?

It of course will depend on barrel, load, environmental conditions, shooter and so on. That said, if I get an MOA group, Im pretty satisfied. I would expect between 1 to 2 MOA though. I really dont do load development with them like I do with other bullets. I look for pressure signs and how consistent ejection is. My goal when loading bullets like that is reliability over accuracy, since they can be run in any of the dozen semi rifles I shoot.

I want the fastest load I can get with no pressure signs and the best ejection pattern indicating consistency

EDIT cause I type too fast and cant spell for sh1t

nailed it. They're not meant for precision work - just fun blaster bullets.... like.. can you hit a 4" gong at 100 yds with boring regularity type loading.

so get a 1-2 moa load thats reliable function, know you're still at half the qualifying standard of "mil spec" for a basic FMJ load, and enjoy the relatively low cost per round.

I wished I had something good to say about FMJ ammo but I don't so I'll just keep quiet and read. Probably already said more than I should have.

I have never, and never will shoot fmj bullets in any of my rifles. Simply because I am an accuracy freak. If it don't shoot less than an inch, It doesn't last long,
Dave.

Agree with all the above. Berry's FMJ are trash if you are looking for accuracy. The 4" gong at 100 is about what mine average. Now the Hornady fmj out of the same rifle are really accurate
