Best .243 on the market today?

Go with the Savage Model 11 Trophy Hunter XP as Dan Brothers said. You get a rifle set up ready to shoot with a decent scope and adjustable trigger. Im a big fan of the Stevens 200 but by time you add in a decent scope your looking at spending just as much if not more than you would picking up the model 11 and you still wouldn't have an adjustable trigger. I will also add that I have a Model 200 in .223, a Savage Axis in .22-250, and the Model 11 in .204 and all three will shoot under an inch at 100 yards. No need in changing the stock or trigger if used for hunting purposes. All three rifles are more than adequate of taking game out to your desired distances as long as she is capable of making the shot herself.
 
I bought this same rifle setup last year in a lefty, and had it shooting 1/2-5/8 inch groups at 137 yards, using 46 grs of 4895 with 58 gr v-max bullets at 3850 average fps.... she did all I could ask for, and even more... especially for the price.... and.... CheapDirt only charged me 10 bucks for shipping.

I'm not sure why I don't buy one in every caliber...LOL.
 
If she is small in stature think about the .243 Win. in a Winchester compact Feather weight (I have one) . only weighs around 6 Pounds 8 Oz's with out a scope. Has a shorter LOP than a standard model. It has the MOA trigger, mine was set at 3 pounds at the factory according to my trigger pull scales.

Crisp, no slack and no over travel. The action is bedded in the front and rear from the factory, free floating barrel.Has good looking wood and the checkering is fair to middling. Shape of stock is pleasing to the eye.

I am impressed with it, as a factory rifle it will shoot my coyote hand loads around 5/8" This is with the first powder and bullet I tried.

Working on a load for mule deer for this season with 100 Gr Partitions, H4831 Powder (42.2 Gr.) and CCI 200 primers seated to 2.400" to Ogive. shooting under 1"MOA so far. Haven't tweaked it yet.

So think about the Winchester Feather Weight compact.

The Ruger American is getting stellar reviews for accuracy, smooth action, excellent trigger and very good all around performance. They're selling for $349 in my area, sometimes cheaper. If she's petite they have a compact version to fit her better. IMO it stands head & shoulder's above the competition.
 
Another vote for the Savage 11, I like mine.
I even like the Accutrigger. They are nice
shooting rifles and a barrel change is easy
if you would like to try a differant caliber.
 
there is a spring on the trigger that can have 1-2 coils taken off of it ( did mine ) and it helps substantially.
Of course you void your warranty, but its just a spring.
 
Check out the Howa 1500's. Very nice rifles. It meets your price range.
Your price range is just above lower end Savages like I have, and just below ruger hawkeye's or remington 700's. I'd try Howa. They are a mock up of the weatherby vanguard.
 
Remington ADL @ Academy Sports for $379.99. The rifle has a 9.25" twist in case you want to shoot 105 gr bullets, throw it in a McMillan Edge or Classic and your golden.
