best all around cailber???????

Many good calibers but 223, 243, 270, 308, 30-06 are less expensive due to mass production.

If expense is brought into the equation then 243 is your best pick.

I chose .270 since I may go Elk hunting again.

+1

243 and 25/06.

If you were just talking coyotes and deer, then the 25/06 depending on how much shooting past 300 you would be doing.

The 243 loaded with 43g of IMR 4350 with the 95g Partition is one whale of a deer and hog round with extreme accuracy in the 700's and Rugers that I have owned.

Vehicles? Ford. All I have to say about it is Fixed Or Repaired Daily. You should have fun before the repair. Rifles? 223, 243, 25-06, 270, 30-06

I know for a fact that a 25-06 with 110 gr. Accubonds will bust through both shoulders of a whitetail. My son did it a couple years ago. Went though both shoulder bones and out the other side. The range was about 250 yds.

My 243 mag.! But there is a ammo issue.!! This is basically a necked down 25-06, but gets slightly more velocity than the 6mm weatherby mag.. Gotta say though, I was inspired to chamber this rifle after I sold my 25-06 & was really missing its performance.. I chambered this rnd on a pre-exsisting 243 mauser by simply cutting a 243 reamer down (head dimensions) so it would not cutt any larger than .470 in diameater, then I simply ran the reamer deeper (used a drill press) & used a full length sized & necked down 25-06 case to set the head space, so its really tight.. FWIW, I already had the reamer, rifle & brass.! so this really costed me only my time, which is much cheaper than a new 25-06.! With that said & without going to this extreme, my vote would go to the 25-06 or 6mm Remington..

If my wife read this forum, would never be able to convince her, that more rifles are necessary. Been looking for 40 years and have not found that all around caliber yet. Have rimfire and have 5 rifles from 243-7mm Mag and all have their places. Try to think of a good excuse to buy another one.

p.o.ackly killed everything in noth america with a 220.swift,my son's both have hunted deer with theirs.they work great and there is a lot of bullets you can use now.if you reload you can make it work pretty good ,but being the best depends on the person.you can make anything work.my grandpa shot a lot of deer with a 22.highpower.

For Predators, I've used everything from a 270 Win and 240 Weatherby mag to a 22 long rifle. I likes the 22-250 best. For deer size game, I love my Sako classic grade 7MM Rem mag shooting 150 Gr Swift Siroccos. For elk, I'm sold on my Kimber Montana in 300 Win Short Mag. Grizz

One of each!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had to pick only one gun, (a fate worse than death), I'd pick a .338 Win Mag.

Yet given the exact parameters of the thread subject, I'd have to say that you just described a .308 Winchester. That still might turn into a .30-06 depending on the definition of "some distances".

Not really a fan of either, just answering the question honestly.
