Best Ammo for Marlin Mod. 60????

I have never honestly patterend mine with all the ammo I use to see which shoots best but mine will shoot everything I put in it well enough to kill rabbit and squirrels without a problem. I usually stick with Remington, Federal, or the Winchester bulk when they have it. Josh

Do not use any of the hyper-velocity rimfire loads in the 60. The buffer will break and cause problems and possibly damage the rifle/action. The owners manual states this in bold letters. I've got a Marlin 70 PSS and it really likes CCI Mini Mags. I also use the bulk stuff for plinking. MI VHNTR

I use just about everything. I have boxes of CCI blazer, thunderbolt, and remington. It all seems to shoot the same. Im currently shooting American Eagle hollow points...not my favorite by far but its accurate.

Mine's nearly 30 years old now (1980), made before they started putting plastic parts in the action, but I shoot pretty much anything in it.

Mini-mags, Velocitors, Remington subsonics, Federal bulk, Aguila Subsonic Sniper, CCI CB shorts (load 'em single shot), and about anything else I have or get.

It seems to shoot the Rem Subsonics the most accurate, with mini-mags being a close second.

My model 60 just loves Remington Thunderbolts. I haven't tried every single .22 load out there, but I've tried quite a few - on a bench rest at the range - and of the ones I've tried, Thunderbolts are the most consistent and shoot the tightest groups.

Of course, that's mine. Yours could have its own opinions. Everyone I trust says you gotta figure out for yourself which one is best - every gun is different.

I agree with daryl as mine is also about that old and will shoot anything I have ever put in it. I haven't tried them all but alot of them for sure. $65 brand new out shoots any standard 10-22 I've ever seen.

I think I paid $44 and change for mine NIB. I'm not sure if it was K-mart, or if it was still "Grants" back then, since they were both in the same building, one after the other. I think it became K-Mart sometime in the 1970's though.

Mine will also out-shoot any standard 10-22 I've ever tried. It's served me well over the years.

Mine seems to really like the Federal Auto Match, but also did nice with the Win. 333s too. I've had problems with the Rem Gold Bullets, FTF and FTE, but I FTF problems with them in my CZs also so I'm sure it's the ammo and not the rifle.

mine hates the winchester 333's. half of them either didnt fire or didnt eject. the Thunderbolts are really slow but very accurate. my favorites are the remington 550 box (golds?)

Funny ya say that, because my Mod 60 has had FTF and FTE problems with the Rem 550's but they've proved to me very accurate out of it. The 333's are my favorite by far, but finding them seems to be a problem around these parts.

I had a couple of Marlin semi-autos, sold them. They were too picky with ammo
The 795 I had only liked stingers, most blulk ammo and many others didn't work so well. I never had a 60 only clip fed models, so...?
My Remington 597 and 552 shoot just about any type much better.

ill tell you what nick, ill load up on 333's and you load up on 550's and we'll swap!

I feed mine Federal .22s from wallysworld, the 550 pack, never an issue in 40 yrs of shooting them in my M60s.

I really like to shoot whatever is cheapest outta my model 60. It shoots everything about the same. I've never punched a ton of paper with it, but it kills the critters, just fine.

I agree with 5spd mine shoots the federals smooth as snot. I'm not looking to shoot a one hole group but when it comes to plinking or hunting they fill the bill.
