What size and type of 223 barrel does everyone like for their ar? I have a dpms now with the stock 16 in barrel but thinking of going to a longer stainless one
20" dtech is the best I have used so far. but honestly you can't beat a RRA barrel most likely. all the ones I have tried are easy to get shooting good.
Quite a few years ago I bought a complete upper from Model 1 Sales. I ordered it with a 24" 1/14" twist ER Shaw barrel. After mounting a 6.5-20X Leupold on it and sighting it in my very first 5 shot group with it had all five shots you could cover with a dime. I then handed it to my buddy who duplicated my group. It's fun to shoot tiny groups. Especially when you are doing it with an autoloader.
Once you shoot a nice 20 inch barrel with a rifle length gas system it is hard to go back. They shoot very, very nice. The only thing i can think of that shoots nicer is an 18 inch barrel with a rifle length gas system.

ive got one of their 20" 1:7 rifle gas varmint barrels that i picked up on their annual holiday fluting sale.
[beeep] barrel is a shooter thats for sure. have a cousin who was a serious hater (he couldn't believe i spent around $400 - after threading - on a barrel) until he shot it and we were dusting charcoal briquette's at about 180 yds with it with nearly zero effort.. now its "did you bring that 223 with you today?" when i go shoot at his place
It is all personal preference. I have an AR 223 with a 16" barrel and one with a 22" barrel. I don't mind the extra length. With my 22" barrel I'm getting almost 3800 fps with 40 grain ballistic tips. You won't see that type of velocity in most 223's.
