Best Barrel vise I have ever had

Lots of guys these days are getting into having "switch barrel" rifles. Same action, trigger, stock, scope, just change out barrels to different calibers...saves a lot of money.

Barrel vises are all over the map in quality and in how easy they are to use.

This barrel vise is the easiest I have ever had, and it is usually a dog eat dog fight to get a barrel off an action for the very first time.

cost of the barrel vise is $79 DELIVERED!!! You do not have to use any tape or rosin on the barrel, they are mark free! Since the recoil lug is locked in, it is impossible for the barrel to spin and mark it up!

I just C clamp it to the benchtop!

here are some pics of me taking a barrel off of a Rem 700 for the very first time:

Remington action is placed in the barrel vise, the vise jaw butts up against the recoil lug

insert Davidson or Holland lug wrench in the ways of the action, attach socket head and cheater bar

Tighten the bolts on the vise, this small wrench is all that is needed!

cheater bar is a must
I also put a 4' piece of pipe on this cheater bar

I bounce the cheater bar twice lightly, then snap the cheater bar hard, barrels come right off.

Hardest part is remembering which way screws the action off! No kidding!

Coyotejunki, the purpose of the area that accepts the recoil lug is to provide a jig fixture to firmly locate the Remington recoil lug as an aid in removing the barrel for the very first time. After the barrel has been taken off for the first time, barrels screw on and off easily. This jig fixture for the recoil lug keeps the barrel from slipping in the vise, it is impossible for the barrel to slip, and the barrel comes off with zero marks on it.

I use a Kliendorst recoil lug locator to locate the exact location of the lug from that point on.

Removing Remington barrels, for the very first time can be a real challenge to say the least.

So true!

Only part about this I don't like is that it wont work the same way when trying to take off a win m70 or any action with a built in lug. I use the big heavy steel machined blocks with aluminum tapered insert rings and find it very easy to remove barrels.

I know this is a old thread but would anyone here have one of these vises they no longer need and want to sell. Thanks guys.
