best centerfire cal for gophers?

Right on, kayo2. I too like working those small calibers as long as I can. The rats stay up much longer and I can see where my bullets are going. I gave up on the 17HMR on PD's. I now use a 17AH, 19 Calhoon and the 20VT for the short to medium shots. A new 17 FB is on its way. The 204 comes out when the winds start to pick up and distances are getting out there. When I want to make lots of noise, I drag out the Swift.

BTW, here are photos of my favorite gopher gun in 17AH (before scope), it is NOT a 50 BMG.

Jim,

As i`ve told you before.....STOP THAT!!!!!!!!

Your rifles are too beautiful for me to look at without running out and buying more...

I`m so jealous.

Phil.

Yeah, if you have a wounded gopher decide to charge, you need to be ready! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

223 with the 40g V Max between 12.0-14.3g of Blue Dot, shoots 1 1/2 inches at 200 yards in my gun. 14.3g is 3300 fps in my rifle. Sight in 1 1/2" high at 100, dead on at 200. This load makes obsolete the 221 FB and the 22 Hornet. Then if you need a higher powered load with the 50's loaded up to full potential, it is right at your finger tips. I shoot the 50's at 3600 fps loaded with IMI brass, 7 1/2's, 26.0g of N-133.

I have a Custom 17 Ah, but this load blows it away. Probably need to sell the 17 AH Shilen bbl.
