Best choke and shell

I have alway used full chokes most of them say no steel and I haven't had any problems and my gun patterns the same as a pattern master now with the carlson full steel ok. I can hit them in the deeks or as they leave. Last week I droped a goose at over 60 yds with 2 shot. I had to do a kill shot but still droped like a rock. All I shoot is winchester HV's in 3-bb 3-3.5. I tried the remington sportsmans this year and they are a vary dirty round I had to clean my gun and I don't do that but once a year

I wouldn't brag about a 60 yard shot with #2's. You shot out of range and got lucky. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. That's outside of the 600 fps rule even if it patterned well, which I'm sure it didn't. How times have you wounded birds at 60 yards? Why would you shoot steel through a full choke marked no steel? There's better options. Do you not understand that that steel is harder than lead? I'm positive you don't know how to correctly pattern a gun. They should really put an article in the rules and regs book on how to properly do it.

Some things to clear up on this thread. Black cloud ammo has the flight control wad. this wad is the pattern control. use of a imp cyl choke will give you the most consistant patterns. large steel pellets will not pattern as well in a full choke as they will in a imp cyl choke. Full steel chokes are best used with small steel pellets. Kent fast steel ammo is a great product. But it is made from cheap hulls, with high quality shot/wads/powder. It is good cheap ammo. Clean your gun. With steel shot, pellet energy drops fast beyond 40yds, If your going to be shooting past 40yds. Diver hunting, pass shooting snow geese or mallards. If you have any of these: Cheap shells, Unknown patterns, poor shooting ability. Buy better shells, pattern them and practice and improve your skills. Range estimation is the main knowledge you need to learn. If your shooting past 40yds, Buy a 10ga shoot reloads or fill your pockets with heavi-shot for your 12ga.

Well said baltz526. There is so much ignorance when it comes to patterning guns. It really bothers me when I hear a guy brag about how far he shot something. Shooting birds out of range is not some test of skill. 2 years ago I duck hunted with a guy who bragged about shooting a goose at 110 yards. I can't even describe how annoyed I was. Majority of waterfowl hunters buy any box of ammo off the shelf and go hunting. It's not stupidity or laziness, they just don't know any better. Let's say I bought a rifle, mounted a scope, bore sighted it and went deer hunting without doing any target shooting. Sounds crazy right? It's the same exact thing as not PROPERLY patterning your shotgun.

And fitting your shotgun. A few years ago i had a discussion with a world class sporting clays/chukar killer. After the talk and some fitting my success rate doubled. Combine a shotgun that fits with good range estimation you end up with piles of birds.

At first I just shot my stock chokes in my shotgun then I patterned them and decided I needed an aftermarket choke. So I bought a patternmaster, ended up sellin it cause I felt like It wasn't doin jack, and It proved true on paper. So now I have bought a carlsons and have yet to get it patterned.
