I know, the question is as old as they come. However, you can read all the internet comments and still you have to split a few hairs on whos word you might take. I have watched this sight for a while now and feel most that frequent and post have some experiance that could be benificial.

I have a REM 870 with a 20" barrel and rifled sights with screw in chokes. I have done some research and I think I am wanting to go with a .675 choke constriction for #4 and 00. I am a tightwad and hate to waste money looking for the right choke. I am thinking about a Carlsons dead coyote but its advertisements does not state the constriction.

From what I have seen, the most popular constrictions are .665, .675, and .695. I am thinking stay in the middle for best results.

Thanks for any experiance you can provide!

Didn't your 870 come with choke tubes? Look around and see if you can buy some used tubes. There are 70 Remington tubes for sale right now on ebay

I gave them a call for my Rem 870 and I believe it was 0.670 , maybe give them a shout and see if you get anything different from them.

The only issue is that I plan to pay for it with a gift card I received from BASSPRO. There are several nice chokes on EBAY. Also, I didnt realize that ebay was allowing the sale of shotgun barrels again.

I love my Dead Coyote choke. It has a great range, but you will have to aim a bit more with it. I have taken predators as far out as 67 yards with it.

There is no hard fast rule. Every barrel shoots different. I have several shotguns & several high end chokes & have patterened alot of buckshot In paticular, my 870 patterns better with some brand 00 with the .696 choke & some better with the .670.

I have bought & sold lots of chokes. Good luck, you may find a good one early.

I have found that shells from Nitro Ammo Company always pattern well in any tight chokes.
