Best factory ammo for 243 win?

Getting a .243 Win and wondering what works well, don't really wanna spend the time shooting 10 different ammos.... Also, what is a good "break in" process for my new barrel?

Idk what the twist rate is for a m7 but a 1:10 should handle anything up to 100g. For deer 100g soft points work well.

For predators.... It dosent make much difference. What works for me may not work for you so you will need to experiment a little with various ammo.

When I go to Mississippi is when i get all my shooting done, so I'll do a little trial and error i guess. Ill post pics of groups, gun, and info when i get around to it.

Go sight it in and shoot it some, go home, clean it!

Then go shoot some critters, go home, clean it.

It is "broken in"

I like this method

I have the 7 predator. Before I started reloading I was happy with the Hornady 58 vmax. FYI they were moly coated. I didn't like the varmit factory options which led me to reload.

Try something in 70-75gr in factoy as well. Your working through a 1 in 9 1/8 twist and sometimes its tough to get lighter bullets to group.

My M7 likes anything! The 58 gr Vmax is great. It also shot the grey box Winchester 80 grainers well. With the 1-9 twist, it ain't too picky. That group in the other thread was a 58 gr Vmax. But I have switched over the 85 g sierras. I don't keep fur. Just get whatever you can afford and shoot it. See what shoots well, and work from there. I'd shoot those 80 gr Win or 85 gr blue box Feds.

It all depends on your rifle...You can have load that your M7 shoots 1/2 groups all day long and my Tikka may not shoot them worth a hoot.

The thing about the lighter bullets in the .243 is a decrease in BBl life. IMHO if youre gonna shoot 55g bullets you would be better off with a .223,22-250,etc

I'm prob gonna shoot around 70-80 grain bullets, so if I do happen to just have my "predator gun" and I'm goin in a whitetail hunt, I can be confident tht it willstill get the job done.

I'm with 2MG, havn't shot any factory stuff in forever! Even if it cost more I would still handload.

If your looking for a double duty bullet I believe federal premium loads the 85gr Sierra BTHP. It's a GREAT bullet that is usually very accurate in most rifles. It will work very good on coyotes & deer.

If you are leaning more toward preadators I think federal primium also offers the 70gr Nosler BT loading. That bullet hammmers coyotes, groundhogs, crows, whatever. It is light for deer but will work with bowstyle shots.

There are also lots of other offerings that will work (that hornaday 75gr HP being a good also). Make & take good shots & just about anything is "good nuf".

FWIW - I've been able to shoot 5/8" groups repeatedly with 39.0 grains of Benchmark with 55gr NBT (moly coated as well) from my Stevens 200 in .243. Just lucky that I tried that load and it works extremely well.

Now, I figured I'd be close with the 58gr Superformance ammo. My groups at 100yds went from .600 to shotgun pattern! Primers flattened. Gave that up.

Good luck!

My model 7 really likes 75v-max and 85 shpbt in reloads
100gr rem core loks in factoy ammo
havent found any 80gr winchesters to try
