Best gun mounted light

So I have a savage axis in .243 I want to start doing some night hunting. I'm just wondering what is the best scope mounted light to get for the money? I've been looking at night snipe and wicked lights as of right now, I'm not sure if there is really anything else out there. Also what color light would be the best? I've heard a lot about red and green but not a definite what is better. I know there are a lot of opinions on the topic just wondering what your guys input would be.
Thank you for your help.

You are gonna get varying opinions. If you scroll through the first 10 pages on this forum you'll probably find no less than 10 threads asking what you just asked. There are 2 threads on the same page as this one. This wheel gets reinvented over and over and over and over and over and over.....

+1 and the PM search engine is a great tool

I started buying "lower priced" lights by buying the XLR 250 when it came out and didn't like it, sold it!
Bought a Sniper Hog Light Mini-Sniper and still own it.
Bought a Night Eyes Headlamp, great light, great customer service, still own it.
Bought the Wicked Hunting Light kit and liked everything but the wobbly light mount and the fact the body of the light was wobbly if you focused the light in tight, sold it.
Bit the bullet and bought the Coyote Light and even though it cost $429 you won't ever have to upgrade as it is the best gun mounted light made period!

That you. I'm kinda on a budget right now and was looking at some other lights. Have you heard anything about the VRL-1 MOD3 kitfrom varmint lights .com? From the two videos I've seen so far it seems like an OK light. The other two I was looking at was wicked hunting lights or night eyes. Just wondering if either of these would work for someone on a budget just starting out.

I have a coyote light and that's what I would recommend. My hunting partner bought a VRL-1 to save some money but now he says he wants a coyote light.

I just got an Orion M30C 700 lumen red light, it had a pretty high level of 60 feedbacks, Orion also has a 350 lumen that is reviewed well that is $149 on Amazon.

Guys were saying they can easily identify out to 200 yards and beyond, and eyes way further to where they can watch the animal come in without regard for the light.

Good enough for me until I can afford good heat sensitive.

Lumens are a measure of overall light. If you remove the reflector or the aspheric lens on a zoom light you still have the same amount of overall light or lumens, yet the light is useless to hunt with. Most lumen claims are inflated or based on the LED manufacturers specs. They are not a good metric to use when evaluating a hunting light.

Sounds like ncyotecaller and I have traveled the same highway.

I've yet to find anything that compares to the Coyote Light. Pricey, but worth every penny IMHO.

Wicked has fixed the problem with the wobbly head on their 403ic light, both of my 403 lights have no play at all when turning the head to focus it....The mount still has some play in it, but once you have it adjusted to the center of your scope it stays there even if you bump it.

Coyote Light hands down. I didn't get on the bandwagon until recently, but I'm pretty much riding shotgun now. It's unbelievable how good they really are.

Thank you for all the great reviews. Below is a link to Armslist. They did an independent comparison and pointed out some of the details that makes our light different.

Good review. However, Sniper Hog Lights has since corrected the slop issue. SHL also offers a dimmer switch too which is a feature that I use in conjunction with an IR 850nm 1350mW module and a PVS 14.

The SHL allows me the flexibilty to swith accessories and modules (lamps in white, red, green and IR) between the 30lr, 50lr and 66lr models. Boondock Outdoors is a PM sponse and also carries the SHL line of products and lots of other products.

Now I haven't tried the Wicked, Night Eyes, or Varmint lights, but I believe they are good lights.

When I was hunting with lights, I had Coyote Light, Sniper Hawg with 66 and 50 heads, and an XLR 250 plus the 100. I killed coyotes with all of them, but I must say as far as hunting with lights goes there was nothing else that compared to the Coyote Light. Yes, it was a lot more money, but to me it was worth it.

The SHL was also a good light, and almost as strong as the Coyote Light, but it only lighted about 1/3 of the area that the Coyote Light did when both were at full zoom.

When I went to Digital NV, it was convenient to get the 850nm IR module for the SHL along with the rheostat control. I still use it regularly and keep it mounted on my bait site rifle.

SHL is coming out with a new red, green, and white LED modules that will be brighter (reach out further)and will be releasing a 940nm IR along with some new lights (3/4 turn to go from flood to spot) in the months coming (maybe sooner).

I have or used products by Wicked, Exclusive Wildlife, SHL, etc that are good lights and all have held up to 12ga magnum buckshot recoil.......SHL is more flexible (wieghs less) for me since I hunt in dense wooded areas, open fields, pipelines, and rivers (allows me to use colored light or use IR with NV with the same light housing). Not trying to encourage or discourage anyone, just some things that might interest PM members since the word "best" can mean different things to different users.

So far I've only had experienced with the Wicked Light and the Coyote Light. The Coyote Light is alot brighter it seems but it's also alot more expensive. A buddy of mine has the Coyote Light and was actually the first light I'd ever used. Just don't put it on a .338Lapua like he did if you get one. The muzzle blast messed it up. He hit the hog he was shootin at though.lol

Ive googled it, and typed it into amazon and ebay. You get the phone book. Thanks for the link, ill order one from there. Just need to decide on a scope first.

I think you may need a new browser. I just googled it to test it out, and the first 4 links will take you somewhere you can view and buy coyote lights.
