best hand call?

Closed reeds are good for begining callers, because they are easy to get a quality sound out of. The downside is that they have limited potential & will malfunction in cold weather.

My favorite is the open reed. They are like a musical instrument in the since they can make so many sounds. Take the extra time to learn the open reed. Happy hunting & good luck.

I put another vote for a Dan Thompson closed reed. My PC-2 is my favorite sounding closed reed call and I don't think it froze up at all last winter.
 
ditto. Dan Thomspn makes some good closed reed calls. Any of the PC's or the Weems remake are good bets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
 
I'll have to put a vote in for the Cronk Killer Call. Great all round call, can also make a decent howl. Also my second favorite call, the Tally ho. Easy to use open reed and very cheap. Im with the rest I would go with an open reed cause of the variety of sounds you can make.
