Best hand held coyote calls?

I own quite a few different ones, so I would have to say it would have to be one of my custom calls made by the great call makers here on PM! Custom is the best way to go!!

I agree, CUSTOM ALL THE WAY!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif To me the ones that dip in the middle and spread toward the top are the best fit if you like to cup your hand around the bell, like this.

I mainly use open reed calls so I will coment on those. I think the Crit R' Call Standard and Pee Wee are good, as well as, Randy Anderson's Lil' Dog. The good old Tally Ho is also still a good producer. I also like Rick Palliet's Tweety and Thumper open reed calls. These are some of the production calls I use.

You might also want to check out the Custom Call Makers forum. Anyone of these guys, I am sure can build you a great call. I am looking into getting a few built myself. I do have one of Rich Cronk's Killer Call which is an open reed call also, and I really like it. Good Luck.

I use mostly open reed calls also. But I just got a cocobolo covered "bullet" call from Kerry Carver (Carver Calls on the custom call forum). It's a closed reed. It's quiet and works great for opening a stand and for "sealing the deal" when a predator is coming in.

You can't have too many calls, too much camo or too many rifles, you know!

I'd agree that the coustoms are the way to go! Check out Rudy (badtothebone) in the coustom call makers forum and his products. Great guy, great calls. Can't go wrong with Rudy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

What about the Ulitimate Predator Kit that I have seen on here? Has anyone used those calls and if so are they a good call? I know they are going for a good cause, just want to know if they are a good call too.

Haydel's Ultimate Predator kit is a good one. Closed reed distress, open reed distress with ki-yi and howling ability...plus an instructional DVD. Can't go wrong there.

Not sure if there is a "best" call. Not even sure if I have ever seen one that flat out didn't work. The custom calls are prettier which makes them appealing but they are all good. I usually can tell whether I will like a call or not based on the feel of the call in my hand and based on what I think sounds good but I wouldn't hesitate to use any of the 1400 calls my wife accuses me of having at any time.

i just started with the custom calls and I'm loving them.
i haven't gone out but one time each with calls from rbboyd, arky, and trashcans calls,
killed one out of a pair using a closed reed and open reed during the same set with rbboyd's.
arky's i parked in a bad spot on the first pair and while they answered the howls they would have had to cross the county road by the truck.
then i got some nice antler calls from trashcan i didn't get out tell 2 pm then got side tracked by a landowner.
didn't see any that day but only made two sets I'll give them all a good try out this weekend. I'd normally go tomorrow but i have to work Friday this week.
before these calls i liked the tally hoe.hydel gh, and the cercie mvp-3 or the old wooden lohmans wooden open reed. but i have many many calls and each gets used depending on what i want to portry

I like the red dessert howler. But the best call in any call I can slobber all over in -20 degree weather and stioll get a sound out of.
