Best Long Range Cartridges for Coyotes??

Which is exactly why I bought a Terrapin.......

Read the OP, he wants a fir friendly bullet to kill a coyote at up to 700 yards. Off sticks I will say an inch at 100 yards is very good, so at 700 yards 7 inches would be really really good not counting any wind. If you just want to hit a coyote anyplace on it's body and count that as good then I guess you are right. There is no fir friendly round that will do what is being asked for. I have a 20 Swift and it won't do it. Larry

I have a lieca 1600 and can get coyotes out to about 8 or 900 but I have to have a very sturdy rest. It's amazing how hard a coyote is to range in a wide open snow covered field!!!

Got a buddy who kills as many as any I've ever heard of out to 800ish. He's using a 243/87 V-Max combination out of his AR-10/Leupold 6.5-20/Varmint Hunter's reticle, but dials beyond the reticle's lowest stadia point. We have a pretty good team setup using my Leica BRF.

Best long-range system I ever used with my XP-100 pistols was the 6.5-284/129 SST--3-12X Burris LER and 6.5 WSM/140 A-Max--Holland-Leupold HUMR system.

My old 65 JLK Low Drag load out of my AR could hit them at the longest of 223 AR ranges, but the bullet wouldn't open up consistently at any range really. Have the new 69 TMK setup now out of it this year. We'll see, though max distance would probably be a conservative 500-600ish.

My choice would be the 22-243win, 75gr Amaxs, 3700+fps

Maybe the 300RUM Imp, 210 VLD, 3055fps on a windy day, Not very Fur friendly on chucks @ 900yds though.

I finally made up my mind on caliber and bought a Tikka T3 Lite in .243. I'll use it for longer shots when calling open fields or when it's windy instead of my .223 AR. It's a classic and still a long range competitor.

WOW! You must be over loading the he11 at of your 22-243 to be getting 3700 out of it with a 75 grainer. Couple of nice looking sticks though!

Also, the RUM is already a pretty straight case, how much did gain when you improved it? I'm a big fan of all things "improved".

Not a mild load but it runs perfect there and with quickload the loads are in a safe pressure range. its been shot in 50deg up to 104deg temps!!! RL17 is a great powder

I know I know all about the unstable RL17 thing....lol

Its been a while but if i remember correctly right around 14 gr... its not a 40deg shoulder either..

338 imp (left) 300 imp (middle) 338 Lapua (right)

Shooting the 75 Amax and uses the load data you gave me
I had the barrel chopped to 20" and threaded this summer
