Best powder for .308 win

Same here, mine likes Rl-15 and varget in that order, also had good results from imr4895, and recently found cfe223 to be very accurate and produces 100+ fps more velocity with 168gr smk's and gamekings.

I asked the same question on here about 308, and the answer I came away with was there is no reason in 308 to stray away from r15 or varget.

Where I do think it comes into play is how hot you shoot the gun. When popping colony varmints on a hot day, I have seen some popped primers when the temps were searing. I didn't see that with a powder like Varget for instance.

Now, without knowing/remembering what the internal pressure was for each load, I have no way of referencing which was a high pressure load, etc. so there could have been various variables. I'm just saying I saw it was the likes of a BL-C(2) and not a Varget, which for all intensive purposes in the .223, should have somewhat similar pressure numbers. (Per Hodgdon's site, I have no way of actually testing it.)

As for the topic I have seen H4895, RL15 and Varget all work well in the .308 Agree with these three powders. I like H4895 the best. My buddies like Var get. IMR 4064 is not a bad choice either.

I load 165 grain Hornadys over 45 grains of Varget in my little model 600 Remington and it is a tack driver. I never have tried RL-15, as I didn't need to.

I have been using IMR 4064 with a 150 grain nosler ballistic tip bullet for quite some time and I have been impressed with the results.

I didn`t experiment with as many powders as for a couple other calibers, but after trying Varget and a couple others, I bought 8 lbs. of Varget...it showed promising results, and if nothing else it`s versatile.

RL15, Varget, and 4064 are all I've tried. RL15 gets the nod here. The knock on Varget that I've experienced isn't whether it's temp insensitive/sensitive, it's that it can be inconsistent with speed and pressure from lot to lot. YMMV.
