Best Rangefinder over Snow???

Greetings all,

Looking for advise on a good range finder, I'm thinking Nikon or Leica.

I do a lot of winter hunting while the snow is on the ground... I've read that some rangefinders have trouble giving readings over snow covered terrain. Is this true for all brands?

I've read the Leica 1200 is one of the best rangefinders but I've also heard it doesn't do so well over snow. Can someone with that has one and hunts alot over snow give me some imput?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

We haven't had a lot of snow out on the eastern plains of CO for the last several years, but i've used my Leica 1200 Scan in snow quite a few times and it works ok-- not great, just ok. Most of the time the snow has not been a complete coverage sort of accumulation, and maybe the laser's bouncing off something else around the coyotes i've used it on-- who would know? But it doesn;t seem like it's an insurmountable problem-- the Scan feature is nice as it makes the unit steadier, and maintains a quick pulse. Usually i get some sort of a reading if i work with it long enuf-- out to 600 yds.+, at least.
 
I can't say for sure about the 1200, but my 900 scan works just fine over snow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had a Leica,that would not work in the snow. The target acquisition feature would disappear and I couldn't range my target. I contacted Leica for input and they told me I should just be happy I have a Leica and that they were aware of this problem. So What.

I sold it and bought a Bushnell. Works all the time, super fast target acquisition in any conditions. The Leica is just as accurate as the Bushnell for a lot more money. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
Yes, Bushnell!! I have a Yardage Pro 1000 and it works awesome. Leica is expensive. It must be nice to have all that money.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
 
I agree with Savage and Redfrog. I have a Bushnell compact 800 and it works great! The only complaint I have about mine is the field of view isn't as wide as I would like. But I bought the 8X so that is my own damn fault I guess.
