Best Safe For $2000

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking into getting a new safe, looking for something around $2000 and getting the most bang for the buck. I thought about a Fort Knox but from what I can tell those are closer to $3000

Here's what I'm thinking

-Dimensions around 30''x60''
-Weighs less than 1000 pounds (have to get it down a flight of stairs)
-I would need to be able to take the door off to help make it lighter to move
-Hopefully hold about 15 guns comfortably. (rifles with scopes and shotguns)

Anyone have any thoughts? I've always liked Browning safes but I can't seem to find anything in their current selection that fits the bill.

Thanks!

Have you looked at web sites like gunsafes.com you can narrow your search in a variety of ways and get specs on just about all of them in all different sizes.

You can get 2 nice safes for a total of $2000. And you might as well do that. Most people fill them up quick. Then you might save on shipping or something. Don't bother taking the door off. You will have a pile of scrap then. Just get a nice appliance dolly with a wrap around strap. And they move like a charm. Most of the 30" deep ones will fit thru a doorway sideways. Measure the smallest door you will have and order that size safe. I've moved these a lot. Not an issue. But I would get 2 right away. Most guns get more scratches from being crammed in a safe and getting bumped and nicked. Get 2 right away and you will never regret it.

I don't know about being able to get two safes for the $2000.00 with very good fire rating. But I would suggest that you get one 2x or 3x the size of what you think you need right now. Most rifles take up the space of 2 guns and most ar's take up the space of 3. Unless you want to pack them in. I would make sure that you get one more than big enough.

There are at least a couple companies that market safes built in panels that assemble on site.
Graffunder also sells precision doors separately.

Pffttt where did you get that from?. Serviceable doors (which most are), are designed to be removed from the hinges (slide on/off). Ive had my safes doors off many times moving them by myself.

I bought a safe from Homeland Safes a number of years ago and continue to be impressed. Very solid construction, removable door (yes I've taken it off with no ill effects), great theft resistance, and some of the best fire resistance available. Mine has ceramic insulation and double seals, a feature I don't see available now. However, a 2300 degree, 60 minute fire rating is pretty decent. These guys seem to have a pretty good product too, but I'm not personally familiar with them.

As mentioned - be sure to get one larger than you think you'll need. Or better yet, plan your location such that you can add another safe next to the one you're installing now. Trust me, you will outgrow it!

something worth watching if you are going to buy a safe.

I like this one because he talks about things that I need to think about that i hadn't before. Like forget trying to take the door off, just sawzall the side open and open up that thin steel and take the guns out that way.

this guy gets a real workout trying to get into this brand.. I don't say to get this one, just that he points out things that you should think about when getting one.

I think that a good safe and a Camera on the safe, with a remote hard drive would be good addition. Not only would it be entertaining to watch one of these good safes fustrate a burgler, but then it would be easy for the cops to catch them.

I have liked my Zanotti Armor for the past 5 years. I have the ZA-II 6 foot model.

The come apart from the inside by the use of big steel pins. Each side, top, bottom, and door is it's own piece. Can't get much easier than that if you ever want to move it.

Mark is a nice guy, helped me out with questions several times.

Can't go wrong with the Fort Knox. I bought my first for $800. When I ran out of room under the beds I bought another exactly the same for $1600. I have not watched their prices lately but I manage to stuff over 100 firearms into just the 2 of them.

I've been looking at new safes for the last few weeks.

Anybody know anything about the Winchester Silverado series???

On paper it looks real good, 10 gauge steel body, 2hr 1400 degree fire rating, and it weighs 1370lbs which is quite a big more than other safes in the same size and it's reasonably priced ($2499 delivered) for a safe this size.

Soooo, what am I missing, what's not to like about this thing???
