Best scope under $200 ???

Need to scope my new 22-250, but didn't want to spend a fortune. I was just wanting all of your opinions on the best scope for under $200... certainly no more than $250 (for night and day coyotes). ??

Cablela's Alaskan Guide series. High quality optics without the big brand premium pricing. I have the 4-10 44mm with Adustable parrelax feature and it's a great scope for the money. I Highly recommend it!

Definately consider the Sightron...over the counter warranty...no questions asked. Don't know of many like that. Also it is an excellent scope for the money....best in it's class IMHO.

Swift Scopes also have an over the counter life time warranty. There premium scopes can be had for under $150 for a 3x9x40. They also have a recticle locking feature.

Pilgrim,

Just a few notes here on your post. I have done some extensive research on a good scope for under $250.00. My efforts came up with a few good deals and one I thought was terrific.

The Sightron 3x9x42 in Matte finish lists for $249, has a solid tube construction and the same class of optics and coatings that the $500 Leupold Vari-XIII does.

The warranty is bulletproof like Bluedog says, you can't beat it. Broken? Bring it back to the counter and send it in, no questions asked!

As for Kendog's suggestion of a Tasco, careful bud, Tasco is out of business! If you do find a closeout deal, I would worry about the warranty.

And Cory B. How large of scope he needs is largely based on the type of terrain he hunts. Unless Pilgrim can't call his dog's in any closer than 300 yards, why on earth would he need a larger scope than a 3x9? I would bet that the majority of the scopes on the rifles in this club are around 3x9 maxing at 6x18. 90% of my shots are at 50 to 100 yards. My 3.5x10 is perfect. I just hate to see the guy spend hard earned coin for something he doesn't necessarily need. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Pilgram,
I would not buy a tasco,I would stick with the sightron or nikon both are good as a loopy at half the price.Recently a friend of mine bought a nikon to replace a worldclass tasco and there is a world of differance in the optics and staying on target. Before he replaced his tasco he was shooting half to 3/4 groups at 100 now he makes one hole at 100.he can cover 5 shots with a dime, with the tasco he never could do that. This is not a opinion, this is a fact.Just something for u to consider when u make your choice.good luck and good hunting

I second Nikon Buckmaster it has very good optics and it's only $189. I would stay away from tasco you can find a better scope for the money.

Amen to the Sightron, I get many compliments when people look through mine. I also agree with Scott on the power, 3-9 is perfect for coyotes. 90% of the time I keep mine on 6x. As for the warrenty, so far I haven't needed it, but it's there just in case. If you shop around I think you can get the SII 3-9x42 for just under $200.00. I don't have one ounce of regret for purchasing one, except for the crap I get from my Loopy friends but they're learning. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If I couldn't get any better than 1/2-3/4" groups out of a WC Tasco for $50 bucks I wouldn't buy it either! Are you kidding? If you can get that kind of group with a $50 scope (which I have. My last WC Tasco was a 3x9x40 that Cabela's had clearanced) how can that not be a good scope for the money? I'm not saying it's the best scope, but I will say it is a darn good scope for the money.

Well, for one thing Yellowhammer, since Tasco is out of business, there is no warranty. If that doesn't matter to you, go ahead and spend the $50.00. Personally I wouldn't use a tasco for anything but a decoy weight. No eye relief, lousy optics, non-existent light gathering qualities, blah, blah, blah. Geez, did someone strike a nerve here? Somebody stop me!!

Scott- Send me all the tascos you can come up with, and I'll send you an equal number of brand new lead wrap around decoy weights. I'll be eagerly awaiting the first shipment. Maybe you were just talking Smack?

Just my 2 cents..... but I think sightron scopes are worthless. I have had one and also looked through a bunch of them and they all seem to be worse than most "cheap" scopes I've seen. I don't see how they could be better than a varix3, but i guess everyone's eyes are different. And that is my advise to you----find a scope that works for you (outdoors!) the best. Lots of scopes will get the job done.

Kendog, was that a tasco you had on your rifle here?

Scott, Tasco has been bought by bushnell andthey are doing the warranty work.

I have to agree with toprow. The gunshops around here are trying to sell the sightrons saying that they are as good as loopys. I've looked trough quite a few of them. They are nowhere near as good as a loopy. I picked up a 3x9 vari xII a few years back for 200 bucks. Look around a little you will find a good deal. Stay away from tascos.

Personally, I like Bushnell scopes. They are reasonably priced, both of mine have the lifetime warranty, and both are very clear and sweet. Just my opinion.
