Best scope under $200 ???

Yes Redfrog it was a tasco, seemed to work fine. I liked cranking it up to 24x on that long distance dog, and looking right up his nose. After all, I needed to save some $ for Kin's fine dining! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I agree with you totally, but I was thinking in the lines of other sports. A 22-250 is capable of shooting a great distance and if he were to ever go prarie dog hunting or some fun shooting sports he is going to kick himself for not getting something a little bigger.

thats all.

Bushnell elite 3200 10x with MilDot reticle.

Its one of the nicest scopes I've ever owned although I've never owned a top of the line Burris or Leupold.

Its water proof and fog proof and has really nice clear optics. You can get it for under $200. You can send in a rebate and get a really nice rain coat as a promotional deal too.

On the subject of Tasco.... I will also take all the good or broken tasco scopes anyone wants to give away. Yes tasco no longer exist however Bushnell bought them out and will honor there warranty I think the total cost of any warranty repair is around $20 to me if i have a 6-20x40ao that is broken $20 is cheap for a replacement

Well never let it be said that I can't be corrected and take it  I guess if you had a budget you were trying to stay within and still hunt, a $50-$75 clearanced Tasco would be a wise choice. For 50.00 how could you go wrong. If it breaks, throw it away and buy another one.

If this were your baby, your rifle you sleep with and oil with tender loving care, I would probably save a little money and step up to a lifetime warranteed scope you could absolutely depend on.

As for the larger scope on the 22-250, I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with the sight picture you are seeing. If you need it closer, step up to a 6x18. I can see shooting prarie dogs at 300yds and wanting a little closer picture.

Everyone has there favorites just like trucks. And we all have opinions to go with them, and some of us(me)stack are soapboxes a little high and tend to fall off easily, duh. Didn't mean to offend.

Good luck with your scope

I like the VX-I 4x12

I'm allways thinking that maybe there is some other scope out there that is just as good as a Leo but cost less. It is so hard to decide from reading these forums because generally 10 people will say that brand "X" broke first time I looked at it and now it is a boat anchor. Or the other side says best ever bar none. I will count the votes to help decide.

The last few posts here summed things up well!
Personally my only rifle that will ever wear a Tasco is my 17 caliber air rifle!!!!! Its the only one where the scope will hold, but a 3x9 makes for a deadly air rifle!

I have a tasco w.c. 3x9 on my 17 too and it holds up. Oh... wait.. mine is a marlin 17HMR. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

IMHO, the best scopes for the money are the Bushnell/B&L Elite series. Someone recommended the 10x40 elite, which is a fine scope, but not for most coyote calling situations. To me, the object of calling is to get them in as close as possible. Most of the coyotes I've killed were within 30 yards. I'd hate to think I had to pick up those close, hard chargers, with a 10x scope.

I'd say to look at something along the lines of a 3-9, 2.5-10, or the 4-12.

I've used Tasco, Simmons, etc. in the past, but I replaced them just as soon as funds allowed. They served the purpose, but I just didn't trust them all that much. I had parallax problems with two Simmons 44 mag's, but Simmons replaced the scopes. It was kind of a hassle to ship them back.

You'll get a lot of recommendations for Leupold. I like Leupold scopes, but I think they're way overpriced. I have a couple, but they were purchased used. A lot of guys tout Leupold's resale value and their warranty, both of which don't mean didly to me. If they're as good as people claim, warranty shouldn't be a concern, and unless you're buying a scope for the sole purpose of making a few bucks, who cares about resale?

Good luck.

I picked up a pair or Simmons 44 Mag (3-10x44) for about 54 each about 2 months ago. I have had great success with the one I put on my .308 for dear season even though the eye relief was a little short for the .308. I put the other one on my 22.250 and have taken it to the range with great results and no problem with the eye relief.

I also have a Swift 4-12x40 on a Weatherby .308. This is a great scope and I had never heard of them until I bought one. I have been told that the same people that make the lenses for Cannon Camera make the ones for Swift. I bought it new about 10 years ago for about $130 but they do not make my model any more.

Bottom line go to a place that will be open around dusk and let you look through it at hunting light conditions. Pick one that gives you a clear field of view and a crisp imiage. Remimber that you can do alittle focusing on it after you take it home. 22-250 does not have the recoild of a heaver rifle so if you are paying for a scope that will fit a 475HH Mag you are probally buying too much.

Tasco, I've had Burris and Redfields, and they weren't any better than my cheap scopes. I carry a rifle in my pick-up, combine, or tractor, 365 days out of the year and a Tasco holds up.
