I suspect this subject has come up before, but Im fairly new to the board.

Im looking for something in the 4x16 or 6x18 magnification range and something under $500. I have several Leupold VXII and a couple of Nikon Bushmasters, both clearly are decent optics.

Does anyone have some thought on other options.

Im piller and glass bedding a Browning barrelled action into a Boyds thumbhole stock and need to put a new scope on it.

Thanks a million for your thoughts,

Ted

Check out the specials from www.natchszz.com on their Nikon refurb scopes. I just bought a Buckmaster 6-18x40 and it is an excellent scope. It came with side paralax adj., and a sunshade for $240. Regular price on this scope even at Walmart is $350. And the glass is extremlly clear.

The Bushnell 4200 4-16's are unreal. I can see 7 mm bullet holes at 400 yards on a bright clear day and 300 on a cloudy day. The 4200's also have very small target knobs that are a huge improvement over any other companies target knobs that I have seen.

The duplex in the 4200's is just the right size in my opinion, not to thin and not to thick and is great in low light conditions.

I would half to go with a Barska, not many people have heard of them and i have one. I was skeptical at first but For 200 bones i gave it a try, its a awsome scope. Much like my Leopold mark four only a grand less in price. The barska comes in like three different models, one a 6x24x44 and a 10x40x50 and not sure one the third, all the scopes have finger adjustable target knobs and side paralax adjustment and come with a five inch sun shade and flip open scope caps. Good clarity and quality for that cheap of a scope, just like a leo mark four, which i used in iraq while serving in a infantry unit as the platoon sniper. Finger adjustable target knobs and mil dots are the ONLY way to go in my book, exspecially after sniper school lol.

go to sportsmansguide.com and you'll see the barska scopes.

Thanks Fellas for the information. I was reading (6) reviews on Midway USA about the Elite 4200 6x24. The 6 reviews were really good for this scope. Im thinking thats I route I may go.

Thanks a million.

If you're using it for calling the Bushnell 4 x 16 will serve you much better. I have the older 4 x 16 without the new side focus for over two years and it's been a great scope. I got it used from Cliff Haydel.
