Best semi auto handgun for $300

I think your getting a little to wrapped up in the safety part of your CCW pistol! Remember that gun will not fire without you pulling the trigger. That part is all on you for your training. Also remember when your in a high stress time that safety is one more thing that you have to do and if you forget in the time of need it could cost you your life or your loved ones.

I myself would never buy used guns for carry. But my .02 is you need to up your budget for your carry gun. But I also feel my life is worth more then $300 remember you need to make sure this pistol will go bang when you need it too. And don't carry it till you have at least 500 rounds down the tube.

My vote would to save some money until you can afford a high priced pistol like a XD,XDm, or that G one if they fit you. If your looking for a pocket pistol the LCP and bodyguard are both great pistols but I agree with 44mag about them being arms length weapons.
 
I don't own any pre-owned guns but a used gun that works is better than some new "budget-guns" that are out there.

I was just trying to keep him close to budget.
 
Thanks guys. If I want a larger reliable gun I have a .357 smith and Wesson in the safe. Just like the idea of a small pocket semi auto. We stay in cabins from time to time and I like to bring a pistol but prefer all my kids don't know I have it. I am looking for something easy to pack while hunting and completely outa sight outa my on family vacations. I'm gonna look at the ruger and keltec and some others this evening
 
LCP all the way for a pocket gun- i carry mine in a very flat inside the pants holster though- just don't like guns in my pocket.

anyways- you can hide the lcp anywhere under the thinnest of t-shirts.
 
The only semi-auto that I would consider for concealled carry in the price range is the keltec.

I wouldn't be too woried about the safety as mentioned. If you are uncomfortable or unsure, use it, use it, and use it some more. You can alway get some training too. Most of what I carry doesn't have a thumb type safety.

The XD wouldn't be my first choice, but have heard good things about them, and I do like springfield.

If you are going up to the XD price range, I would go for a 1911, walther p99 or a glock, but that's just me.
 
Lastly, I wouldn't hesitate to buy used gun. But I am confident in my own abilities to check it out, and if I am out of my depth there are always gunsmiths.

Many of my gun purchases are used.

That should be a decent choice. My Glock 26 is a joy to carry and the xd9 sc is only a tad larger i beleive. You do need baggier clothes to hide these over the lcp though. I carry my G26 in a leather/thumbrake/pancake/ belt holster behind the hip. Much more effective weapon than the lcp- if you ever have to use it.
 
Glock 26 is a pain in the [beeep] to carry, I had one.

Hardly subcompact when the slide is the same diameter as the 17 and 19

A quality belt and holster can help make the sub compact Glocks much easier to carry on a daily basis. I carry a G27 as my off duty weapon and hardly notice it is there. I will admit to spending quite a bit and swapping quite a few holsters before I found one that fit me well. I feel much more comfortable with the G27 than any of the small .380 pocket pistols.

I really disagree. A good holster can be almost as important as the gun. Heck, sometimes I carry a G19 with a surefire in my Kaluban Cloak holster and all I need is a semi-loose t-shirt or a light jacket to conceal it. I've never had any problems concealing my G26 either, and when I can't carry that I carry my LCP. The subcompact versions of the Glock, M&P, XD, 1911, etc. aren't intended as a pocket gun like the LCP, Keltec, Sig 238, etc. They are meant to be easily concealed, highly reliable and functional side-arms.

PF9 is your best bet to stay within your budget. The LCP is nice, I carry one as a backup, but I would opt for at least a 9mm for a primary weapon.
The long trigger pull is more than adequate for safety.
 
Getfoxy, I have to disagree too. I often carry full size semi-autos. A 1911 among them. With the right holster and a decent belt. I don't even feel the weight.
 
Personal preference I guess, I don't like it. Lcp for me.

I'm often in basketball shorts and a tshirt in the summer..the g26 did not work.
 
Im not saying the best option is mine, but i'm very satisfied with the one I Got.
The most accurate Ive tryed so far was a S&W 41.
But I love my MK-II
Ive try 3 really cheap bulk ammo, Thunderbolt, American Eagle and CCI Blazer. the grouping at the end of the barrel is the CCI Blazer, Off hand at 10 meter.
 
Fair enough, but I also carry a full size Walther which is close to a glock, and again very comfortable for me. But to each there own.
