Best skinning knife for a beginner for fox, yote, maybe mink?

When I was doing alot of mink and rats I realy liked a Schrade carbon steel Muskrat and fox a Schrade Carbon steel 4" Trapper. For deer I use a Cold Steel Pendelton Mini Hunter. For coyotes I use the Mini Hunter and a KaBar Prescision Long Point Flex Hunter. A worn out Dexter boning knife works well also

Rainshadow makes some realy nice looking knives I'm going invest in one some day.

looks like both would make a nice coyote skinner, I like something a little smaller for mink rats and fox.

Those are smaller, I like 'em, especially for your application. AWS might be right though, you might look into getting disposable bladed scalpels for little critters.

I can't believe he's pulling that much money for a basic micarta gripped D2! Whew! Someday!

My old school bud. Used a short bladed kitchen [paring knife]. He kept it very sharp, useing a kitchen electric knife sharpener.

If you're willing to spend that kind of money I recommend sending Rainshadow a pm & getting something custom made to your liking. He builds some nice stuff!

i personally use blades from a razorknife. they are as cheap as they get and you can just throw them away when you are done.

those knives look like they would work excellent but i am more efficient without them

You might want the fox leg bone to be stabilized first...I don't think it would hold up to hard use over the years. You couldn't go wrong with Steve! I'm expecting a custom from him tomorrow!! Good luck!

Bob Dozier is a legend in the business of actually hand building and making knives from the raw materials. His heat treatment of D2 is the standard other custom makers attempt to reach. The Canoe Knife and Semi-Skinner are superb knives. I have had all sorts of knives from many, many, custom knife makers, and while many of them are excellent - the Dozier's are my keepers and the knives I grab to actually work on something. I've got a bundle of them and do not regret one single purchase. If Lord forbid I needed to raise some cash quickly I wouldn't lose a penny on any of them because of the reputaion Dozier Knives has.
